Great news, Illinois!!! Congratulations!
If anyone has any questions about medical aid in dying, let me know. I’m happy to explain the typical process, the options, and answer any questions you may have. Implementation of the law and access to services will take some time, but I know they have some infrastructure in place to begin this work in IL and the resources and support of a dozen other states that have been administering like programs for many years. Thanks for offering this dignified end of life option to the people of IL, Governor JB Pritzker. Everyone deserves a good death.

BREAKING: DEATH WITH DIGNITY WINS IN THE ILLINOIS SENATE!

The Illinois End-of-Life Options for Terminally Ill Patients Act (SB1950), also known as Deb’s Law, passed the Senate and now heads to Governor JB Pritzker's desk!

If signed, Illinois will become the first Midwest state with a Death with Dignity law, joining 12 states and Washington, D.C., where terminally ill patients will have the right to this compassionate end-of-life option.

Donate now to secure the final push and protect the freedom for terminally ill patients to die with dignity: https://tinyurl.com/7ewxp5ey

What a beautiful sharing of grief from a 34 year old mother dying of metastatic breast cancer.

We don’t often talk about the grief experienced by those who are dying. It starts at diagnosis and is often complex. Consider talking to your dying loved one about their grief and experience. There’s great connection to be found in that space.

‘All There Is’ is such a great podcast exploring grief. It’s free and available wherever you listen to podcasts.

Donna Ashworth’s poetry is a salve to the soul. I especially love the idea of nurturing our grief, rather than exiling it. It needs us, and we need it. ❤️

My sweet pup, Kota, died last week at the age of 9, after a sudden decline. It has been a big loss and it feels quite heavy. I'm also filled with so much gratitude. I'm grateful for the unconditional love he showered us with for the past 8 years. He was the perfect family dog for us.

I'm also grateful that we were able to give him the good death that he deserved. We kept him at home surrounded by his family, his favorite comforts and treats, and all of the familiar sights, sounds, and smells that made him feel safe. We were able to keep him comfortable and we gave him the gift of a peaceful ending at home, in his cozy bed, surrounded by love and snuggles, with the help of a local vet.

He was dearly loved by his family and will be missed everyday.
Peace to you my sweet puppers. I love you.

NEW!!

Have you ever experienced grief? Are you living with anticipatory grief? Is the grief of the world weighing heavily on you? Join me as I host a new monthly program:

Creating With Grief
November 19th (and the 3rd Tuesday of each month)
10:00am-12:00pm

Creating With Grief is a peaceful gathering space for us to be in community and externalize our grief through “creating” our own independent projects. Whether it’s through sewing, painting, sketching, stitching, coloring, or sculpting, the process is yours to explore. Bring your grief and your art/craft/sewing supplies with you. If you don’t have a current project to bring along, you’re welcome to use the basic supplies provided.

I look forward to seeing you there!

We've been lead to believe that if we die, somehow it's a failure. Failure of a physician's skills or the person's will. Yet, death is life's natural conclusion. A life has been lived. Death is simply a transition.

There's something special about the love we give and receive from our critters. When our beloved family member dies, the grief can be quite heavy. The loss of an unconditional love like this is significant.

The first family member loss I experienced was Baby. My best kitty friend who let me carry him around the house like a baby, press his whiskers downward to make him "smile", and snuggle with him whenever I wanted. He asked for little. He was the sweetest!

We are often tasked with making their life-ending decision, which can add another layer of grief or even guilt. And, some of us are experiencing anticipatory grief as we watch our aging critters lose mobility and functionality.

What critter family members are you missing these days? Share a pic, a memory, or just their name. I'd love to meet them!
