Today’s Sign Spotlight features Baxter Arena, the multi-use sports facility owned and operated by the University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO). Officially opened in October 2015, this arena seats nearly 8,000 spectators and is home to the Omaha Mavericks hockey, basketball, and volleyball teams. The venue also hosts concerts, community ice skating, and graduation ceremonies.

When presented with this project the existing sign had red letters directly on the dark fascia, creating relatively low contrast and visibility. The solution was to create a control panel sign that significantly improves visibility and brand recognition. This was achieved by introducing high-contrast white letters on red background that stand out from the building. The design improves readability from a distance, creates stronger wayfinding for visitors, and establishes a more memorable visual presence while maintaining the existing architectural character of the arena.
