A Nation Mourns – I Mourn
I am deeply sorrowful to learn that Charlie Kirk has passed away following the cowardly attack in Utah today. My heartfelt prayers are with his wife, his children, his family, and his loved ones in this darkest of hours.
I had the privilege of once being responsible for Charlie’s security. In that time, I came to know him as a pleasant and respectful young man—someone who, regardless of whether you agreed with his politics, deserved to live, to speak, and to be heard.
This act was not just a crime—it was cowardice at its worst. A bullet is no substitute for debate. We must, as Americans, return to civility, to reason, and to respect for human life even when we disagree.
To his protective detail—my brothers in this profession—I want to say this: I stand with you. I know the weight you must carry tonight. You gave your all. You faced what every protector prays will never happen. My prayers are with you and your families for peace, strength, and healing.
May God grant comfort to all who are grieving tonight, and may this tragedy awaken us as a nation to reject violence and reclaim the path of civil discourse.
