We are honored to be leading the restoration of the historic Mueller Bell Tower. This tower has been a fixture on campus for over 75 years, and it’s incredibly meaningful for us to help ensure it stands strong for generations to come.

It’s not every day you get to help preserve a piece of local heritage, and we don’t take that responsibility lightly.

The St. John Paul II Newman Center* project received The Excellence in Masonry award, which was presented on Friday, November 9, 2018. The AIA Nebraska Excellence in Design Awards Gala was held at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha, NE. We are extremely proud and honored to part of such an incredible project!!!

*Located in Aksarben near the UNO Campus at 1221 S. 71st St.

This award recognizes Excellence in Masonry: Bringing recognition to AIA Nebraska members based on the technical and creative use of masonry in meeting aesthetic and functional design challenges. Projects are required to have masonry installed by mason contractors.

BVH Architecture won the Don Littler Excellence in Masonry Design Award at the AIA Awards Gala.

Endicott Clay Products Company supplied the project with Manganese Ironspot Norman Artisan brick.

Kehm Contractors, Inc. was the mason and Boyd Jones Construction was the General Contractor.

There is colored mortar supplied by TCC Materials.

Tuesday gardening tip: Pruning is an essential gardening skill. Pruning done correctly will encourage healthy growth and flowering of plants that have flowers, helping the plant look good! For most shrubs and trees, it is beneficial to prune at the right time. What you get in return is thicker foliage, more flowers, and healthier plants. Most homeowners prune when it's convenient for them, but that might not be the best time for the plant. Pruning in the winter is best, however, many people make the mistake of pruning during the hot summer months.

A good starting point for pruning your plants is to remove dead, diseased, or damaged stems as soon as you see them. Dead stems attract insects and invite diseases to develop.

Also remove crossing branches, water sprouts (vigorous upright growing shoots that form on trunks or side branches), and suckers (vigorous shoots that develop near or from below ground).
