A confident answer looks like a decision. It isn't one.

Ask AI what to do and it'll tell you. Fast, fluent, sure of itself. But it can't decide the things that actually run your marketing:

➡️ Who your ideal customer is.
➡️ What you stand for.
➡️What a good lead really looks like.

Those are judgment calls. Someone has to own them. Most growing companies never put anyone in that seat.

This isn't a marketing problem. It's a leadership gap. And it has a name: the empty CMO seat.

Who owns those decisions in your business?

For years, marketing ex*****on was the expensive part: writing, designing, targeting, testing. That's the part AI just made almost free.

Here's the twist most owners miss. When ex*****on is cheap, output stops being the constraint. The scarce thing becomes judgment. The decision about who to target, what to say, and what a good lead actually looks like.

Most growing companies never built that seat. Tools and junior hands filled in. AI didn't create the gap. It exposed it.

Everyone can produce more marketing now. Almost no one has someone whose judgment is worth multiplying across it.

AI executes. Someone still has to decide. Who owns that call in your business?

The way your customers find you is changing fast. And most marketing playbooks haven't caught up.

In our latest panel, Dave Blanchard sits down with Isaac Voss of Rocket Crew and Joshua Strawczynski of jMarketing Agency to unpack what AI search actually means for B2B and small business owners.

The data is sharp:
👉 Google AI Overviews are cutting clicks by 38%
👉 51% of B2B buyers now use AI chatbots for research
👉 Top SEO firms are seeing a 35% drop in click-through rate

But here's the part most people miss: visibility isn't declining. It's moving. AI is now choosing the three to five companies that get considered in your category, and that's the new game.

🎙️ yorCMO Thought Leadership Sessions
Most companies reach $10M on grit and founder-led selling. The trouble starts when that same formula is expected to carry them to $25M.

In our latest session, Nikhil Hunshikatti (Fractional CMO, yorCMO), Brad Martyn (Founder, FocusCFO), and David Jones (Fractional CRO, Sales Xceleration) dig into why growth stalls in this range and why it's an operating-model problem, not a demand problem. When marketing tracks lead cost, sales chases bookings, and finance plans cash in isolation, more pipeline just creates more noise.

The companies that break through don't add more activity. They build one shared scorecard, one funnel view, and one definition of a good customer.

When growth stalls, most leaders go looking for it in the market. It's rarely there. The deals are closing. The pipeline is full. Revenue is still climbing. So why does every quarter feel heavier than the last?

In a recent yorCMO Thought Leadership Session, Robert Mendelson, Fractional CMO sat down with Wilson Kwan, Fractional CFO, Tanya Van Soest, Fractional CMO and Darren Legault, Fractional CRO, to unpack what really slows scaling companies down: marketing, sales, and finance growing at three different speeds, with no single owner accountable for the result.

The growth problem at most professional services firms isn't a market problem. It's a design problem. Demand is there. The phone is ringing. Referrals keep coming. So why does scaling still feel like pushing a boulder uphill?

In a recent conversation at the yorCMO Thought Leadership Sessions, Chad Person, Fractional CMO and President at AccountingCMO, Chris Cocca, Fractional CRO at Sales Xceleration, and Kathryn C. Crosby Fractional COO at Wise Mind Ventures LLC held a candid conversation about the leadership gap that quietly stalls professional services firms in the $5–15M range.
