Sacramento County Sheriff Jim Cooper weighs in on G.L.O.V.E. and why having effective, lower-level force options matters.

When an officer has to gain control, the situation still has to be resolved. If a tool can help reduce the need for higher levels of force and potentially prevent injuries, it deserves to be understood and considered.

The goal is simple: safer options, better outcomes, and less unnecessary force.

KETV 7 took a closer look at G.L.O.V.E.—asking the questions, seeing the technology firsthand, and even experiencing it themselves.

The coverage also explored how G.L.O.V.E. works alongside the Tactical Athlete Program (TAP), where the tool is backed by comprehensive training, tactics, and better decision-making.

Thank you to KETV 7 for taking the time to experience it firsthand and give the conversation a fair look.

There’s a lot of information online about G.L.O.V.E.—and not all of it tells the full story.

In this video, we break down five common misconceptions about the tool, how it’s actually intended to be used, and why proper training matters just as much as the equipment itself.

G.L.O.V.E. is not a replacement for de-escalation, communication, control tactics, or good decision-making. It works best as part of a complete training system built around safer, more effective outcomes.

For the full breakdown, watch the complete video on the Complete Tactical Consultants YouTube channel.

What does G.L.O.V.E. actually feel like the first time you experience it?

Three first-time participants. Three demonstrations. Then we asked them directly what they felt, what surprised them, and what they thought about the experience.

No scripts. No prior G.L.O.V.E. experience. Just the demonstrations and their real reactions.

What does G.L.O.V.E. actually feel like the first time you experience it?

We put a first-time participant through a realistic G.L.O.V.E. application, then immediately sat down with her to hear about the experience in her own words—what she felt, what surprised her, and what she thought afterward.

No prior G.L.O.V.E. experience. Just the demonstration and her real reaction.

The G.L.O.V.E. is one of the most effective tools available to law enforcement—and with the comprehensive training provided through T.A.P., officers are prepared to use it safely, confidently, and effectively.

Together, G.L.O.V.E. + T.A.P. can help officers gain compliance, reduce unnecessary escalation, and create safer outcomes for everyone involved.

Safer for officers. Safer for the individuals they encounter. Better for the communities they serve.

The right tool needs the right training.

The G.L.O.V.E. is one of the most effective tools we use in T.A.P. and has tremendous potential to save lives through deterrence, compliance, and safer control.

But every tool has limitations. Officers still need comprehensive training in de-escalation, crisis communication, anti-bias, stress management, decision-making, and control tactics.

G.L.O.V.E. + T.A.P. gives officers the tool AND the training to use it effectively and safely.

Another Tactical Athlete Program Instructor Course is in the books.

Every class is another opportunity to strengthen agencies from the inside out.

When an instructor returns to their department, they don’t just bring back a certificate—they bring back the ability to train others, reinforce standards, and help build a culture of continuous improvement.

That’s why TAP was designed to be more than a defensive tactics course.

It integrates leadership, officer wellness, communication, stress management, report writing, de-escalation, control tactics, instructor development, and implementation into one complete training system.

Congratulations to everyone who invested their time, challenged themselves, and took another step toward making their agencies stronger.

The training doesn’t end here.

This is where the real impact begins.

The right tools can make a critical difference.

They can help officers gain compliance more efficiently, reduce unnecessary force, and create safer outcomes for everyone involved.

But equipment alone doesn’t create confidence.

Confidence comes from understanding when to use a tool, how to use it, and having trained with it enough that good decisions become second nature under pressure.

That’s why effective training goes beyond simply issuing equipment. It builds competence, judgment, and the ability to apply the right tool at the right time.

Because the safest tool is the one the officer is trained and confident enough to use correctly.

The physical demands of law enforcement are obvious.

The mental demands often go unseen.

Every shift brings uncertainty. Every decision is made under pressure. Every action is subject to scrutiny—often by people who have never had to make those same decisions in a matter of seconds.

That’s why preparing officers isn’t just about control tactics or defensive skills.

It’s about building resilient professionals who can think clearly, communicate effectively, lead with confidence, and continue making sound decisions when the pressure is at its highest.

The strongest officers aren’t just physically prepared.

They’re mentally prepared, too.
