So, what is with our name anyway and how do you say it?

AVI8 (Pronounced "Aviate") comes from the aviation industry (obviously - well, maybe not so obviously). Flying an airplane is a high reward method of transportation, yet potentially catastrophic. The same can be said about owning or leading a business in terms of producing financial value.

While flight was once a very risky proposition, today it is generally considered one of the safer modes of transport. There are many factors, but it is the use of checklists and processes that ensure pilots provide safe transport for their passengers.

One of the first and most critical checklists pilots memorize is represented by the acronym “ANC.” Aviate - Navigate - Communicate. This is how every pilot is trained to respond in an emergency or when time does not allow for the running of written checklists. In an emergency or complex situation, the first thing the pilot must do is Aviate - in other words, ensure the plane remains controlled and in the air.

Secondly, they must navigate whether that is towards their destination, a way point, or an emergency landing location.

Lastly, they must communicate their status and intentions to air traffic control and others in the area.
