What a beautiful surprise morning to share the majority of the day splitting, sorting, stacking and even replacing our electric starter solenoid on the Vanguard engine of the Eastonmade Axis by Andrew Easton & Company.

Love what I get to do, and a quick shout out to our loyal customers who purchase our hand held split and dry hardwood, Kindling, Wood Racks and firewood services...ie downed tree removal.

This morning we jumped on some 24" diameter rounds of Poplar, the finished 'Select Cuts' in this video will be used for our New product line of NO BARK NO MESS 1 cubic foot bundles that are selling at our self service stands at Atlanta's Homespun Treasures llc The Resale Store,With Bargins Galore , Onaway and Hillman locations. Plus we will deliver six or more bundles to your cabin or campsite!

Enjoy the operations and layout of the Wood Yard on the farm as it will soon change with purpose!

Spit Fly Delivery!!!

This early Spring delivery is always fun! I got bit by a Spit fly....and my lip swelled so I am talking funny! Always an interesting day when deliveries happen.

We clean out wood sheds, re-split BIG existing logs, stack and sweep the area clean!

Contact us early to schedule a delivery for the fall/winter fireplace burn. On the Wood Yard is Maple and Oak without the bark on! This type of splitting provides even moisture loss through the piece of wood, as well as very few bugs and way less mess to store. This wood will be priced in an International Bulk Container (IBC) with an extra large Kindling bundle. PM me directly or call.

Ready? Set* Go!

We are open in Hillman Michigan....one of my favorite locations and watch why

Retail businesses have always been a social draw for a proprietor, for the simple reason of social interaction. It's almost the same as with self-service retailing.... almost!

When setting up this firewood sales trailer I met the owner of the lot, and the former owner of the Town grocery store. LoL 😂 it was good socializing and sharing with them.

Are Rough Cuts' put together a "plan - O - gram" of what products need to be on display and what location. Speaking with experience it's the same for Auto Zone, Home Depot and that other Big Box retailer who's name escapes me???

We all are trying to serve customers in the most popular way!

A New Northwoods Adventure!

Meet Jon of Papa Jon's Nursery, another small business owner! He trailered his mobile Wood-Miser XL 50 to the farm, where this horizontal band Saw cut several species of logs we had ready to make into lumber.

What we learned included making sure all four wheels of the trailer where the Wood Miser is attached to is stable on the ground (this prevents lateral movement). Next it was important to level the unit as best as possible. Remember we are in the woods, not on a concrete slab.

I learned how much more precise the cutting is with a band Saw versus a Rough Cut' saw mill. I Love learning and doing!

During the full day of operation this unit cut Red Pine, Poplar, Cedar, Balsam, and Spruce.

The sizes varied from 4"x 4", to 5/4 boards, to 1"x 3-1/2" boards and 1" x 4" 5" 6" widths.

After drying the lumber it will be shaped and plained as molding for the living room of the house by Rough Cut' Walt. And the 12' long 4" x 4" posts will be used by CBJ for a "Bucking" table in the wood yard later this summer!

LOST!!! GONE!!!! STOLEN!!!!

Could your business survive 10% of its products growing legs and walking away???

What can be done about theft and shortage?

I'd sure like to learn more from everyday people and other small business owners on what can be done to detur, to prevent and to stop stealing. Last season with five self locations there was a 9.75% loss of products. WOW!!! The numbers tell the truth!

In most every business product loss affects many levels of good people....from the owner, the workers, the property manager, the supplier and lastly the faithful loyal honest customers....you!

CBJ and the Rough Cuts' are developing tactics to reduce this problem. This video is one of those tactics!

Happy Mother's Day to all our customers and their spouses.

This woman with CBJ is a Rough Cut' - believe it or not she's been to the Wood Yard and got to see the Eastonmade Axis in operation.

She has contributed to the success of this adventure! And now again I have come to realize how GRATEFUL I am! How FORTUNATE I was, and what a GREAT childhood I had.

Helen has supported every dream I had, every curious notion I followed, and every bad, good or indifferent decision I made in my Life.

So I truly wish her a blessed Mother's Day!

We'll be planting 150 trees total. In Rogers City we'll plant around the Courthouse before moving over to the high school campus to plant even more. In Onaway we'll be starting at Chandler Park before moving on to plant more in a couple other locations in town.
