ONE OF ALABAMA’S SWEETEST FALL TRADITIONS RETURNS OCTOBER 31 WITH FRESH CANE SYRUP, SOUTHERN FOOD, OLD-TIME CRAFTS & MORE THAN 100 VENDORS!
The tiny community of Loachapoka, Alabama, comes alive when Syrup Sopping Day returns to Pioneer Park on October 31, 2026. This free festival has been a local fall tradition for more than 50 years and attracts thousands of visitors for a day filled with food, history, music and old-fashioned demonstrations.
One of the highlights is watching mules power a mill to crush sugar cane, followed by the fresh cane juice being cooked over an open fire until it becomes syrup. Visitors can also see traditional skills such as blacksmithing and quilting while exploring historic buildings that offer a glimpse into life in East Alabama during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
More than 100 vendors are expected with pottery, paintings, baskets, jewelry, woodwork and other handmade goods.
And definitely arrive hungry. Festival favorites include sweet potato and sausage biscuits, camp stew, collard greens, pinto beans, corn muffins, fried pies, barbecue, kettle corn and boiled peanuts.
