It’s Fire Recall Friday!

FCA US has issued a new recall for more than 1 million model year 2021-2025 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles due to a risk of fire, even when the vehicles are turned off. Owners should park their vehicles outside and away from other vehicles and buildings until their vehicle has been repaired.

The recall affects 1,076,999 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles, which may have an electrical connection issue in the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring. This could cause combustible materials to overheat and potentially catch fire.

This recall was influenced by an investigation NHTSA opened due to multiple reports of fires. NHTSA is aware of 51 fires and one injury that are likely due to this issue.

FCA will notify owners when a recall remedy is available, and owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 9.

Summer Fire Safety Tips: Preventing Fires During the Hottest Time of Year

Summer is a season filled with outdoor gatherings, vacations, grilling, fireworks, and family fun. While these activities create lasting memories, they also bring an increased risk of fire incidents. Taking a few preventative measures can help keep your home, business, and loved ones safe throughout the summer months.

1. Grill Safely

Outdoor grilling is one of the leading causes of summer fires. Before firing up the grill:

-Keep grills at least 10 feet away from structures, decks, and overhangs.
-Never leave a grill unattended while cooking.
-Clean grease and fat buildup regularly.
-Inspect propane tanks, hoses, and connections for leaks.
-Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and know how to use it.

2. Use Fireworks Responsibly

Fireworks may be a summer tradition, but they can quickly turn dangerous.

-Follow all local laws regarding fireworks use.
-Keep spectators at a safe distance.
-Never allow children to handle fireworks.
-Have a bucket of water or garden hose readily available.
-Fully extinguish used fireworks before disposal.
-Even seemingly harmless sparklers can reach temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. Protect Your Home from Wildfire Risks

Dry conditions and high temperatures can increase fire danger.

-Remove dead vegetation, leaves, and debris from around your property.
-Trim tree branches away from structures.
-Store firewood away from buildings.
-Maintain defensible space around your home when possible.

4. Be Careful with Outdoor Fire Pits

Fire pits and outdoor fireplaces have become popular gathering spots.

-Only use fire pits in approved locations.
-Keep fires small and manageable.
-Never leave a fire unattended.
-Fully extinguish fires before leaving the area.
-Avoid using fire pits during windy conditions.

5. Practice Electrical Safety

Summer often means increased use of fans, extension cords, and outdoor equipment.

-Avoid overloading electrical outlets.
-Replace damaged extension cords immediately.
-Use extension cords rated for outdoor use when outdoors.
-Keep electrical equipment dry and protected from the elements.

6. Store Flammable Liquids Properly

Gasoline, pool chemicals, and other flammable products require special care.

-Store them in approved containers.
-Keep them away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
-Never store gasoline inside living spaces or attached garages when avoidable.
-Follow manufacturer recommendations for storage and handling.
