Most families assume Medicare will step in when a parent needs daily help at home. It doesn't.

Medicare covers short-term skilled nursing after a hospital stay — up to 100 days, under specific conditions. It does not cover ongoing custodial care: help bathing, dressing, preparing meals, or simply having someone there.

That gap catches a lot of families off guard, usually right when they can least afford the surprise.

We get asked this almost every week: "Is this normal aging, or is it dementia?"
