Ord Cares

Ord Cares is designed as a way to help support Ord charitable organizations that do not have the resources to have large fundraising events. We believe that this program will help ensure the viability of these organizations that do so much for our community.

Who can participate – A seed group of 50 people will be invited to attend the first event in October 2024. They will need to commit to donating $50 to the Ord Township Library Foundation and then $50 per quarter to a different Ord charitable organization from there on out. If they cannot attend the event, they will ensure that their donation is sent with someone else or delivered to the library prior to the event in cash. After the initial event, additional people can participate as invited.

What charitable organizations can participate – Any 501(c)(3) or other charitable organization with a principal place of business within the 68862 zip code, may participate. This does not include churches or other major non-profit organizations that collect weekly donations or conduct their own major fundraising activities. Participating charitable organizations will be nominated and must agree to present a short 3-5 minute presentation about their organization at the event.

How it works – After the initial event, which will be to explain the group and how it works, people will come with their $50. They will then listen to the three presentations and then vote on who they believe the winner should be. All votes will be placed in a jar and a winner and second place organization will be picked from those votes. Cash or checks will be placed in a jar after the drawing and the winning organization gets the funds collected and the 2nd place organization is guaranteed a spot at the next event. Winners will not be eligible for consideration for three years after winning. Cash or checks will be placed in a jar after the drawing and the winning organization gets the funds collected. Participants who are present can nominate organizations for the next event and the nominations will be tallied for the two additional participants for the next event including the 2nd place winner. People are then welcome to stay and mingle with others in attendance or leave after the drawing and nominations.

When are the events – Events will be held on the 4th Sunday of January, April, July and October at 7 p.m.

Where are the events – Area businesses will be asked to host the events. Participants will be encouraged to eat or shop at the business either before or after the event.

Why have the events – It’s a quick and easy way to support small Ord charitable organizations, ensure their continued existence and support their projects.
