When I was 24, I asked for a raise at Best Buy. I was running one of the top stores in the country, putting in long hours, and thought I had proven myself.

The answer was “No.”

That moment stung—but it became one of the most important turning points in my life.

Because two days later, a financial advisor cold-called me. He didn’t know who my father was. But I did. That call forced me to humble myself, pick up the phone, and ask for an opportunity I had been avoiding.

That single decision launched a career and eventually inspired me to write The Kairos Code.

Lesson: Ego closes doors. Humility opens them.
