Homie really almost broke his neck to pursue that once he first caught odor.

Fun fact about Ransom: he’s a detailed and methodical guy. Once he catches odor he’ll go high low left and right before he feels comfortable telling me he’s gotten as close as he can get.

Did you catch his first change of behavior? 🤔👀

MEET MADELINE + K9 TWIST! 🐾

Okay… this introduction is very overdue. 😂

If you’ve been following our stories, you’ve definitely seen these two around. Madeline and Twist have been signed on with The Mold Mutts and working diligently with us for months now… and somehow we never gave them the official introduction they deserve.

So, let’s fix that.

Madeline | K9 Handler
Twist | Mold Detection K9 in Training

Madeline brings years of professional working K9 experience to our team. She’s a certified working K9 handler with a background in explosive detection and years of experience working alongside highly trained detection dogs.

And when we say Madeline’s whole world is dogs, we mean it. 😂 She doesn’t just run detection dogs professionally- she also trains and raises dogs. She is incredibly skilled, and her depth of K9 knowledge and experience makes her such an asset to our team.

Alongside her is K9 Twist, her spaniel mold detection partner currently in training. Twist is expected to certify and officially get to work within the next couple of months- and we cannot wait for you to see him in action!

Twist is enthusiastic, incredibly talented, LOVES his job, and has a nose that simply does. not. stop. 😂
Watching these two develop as a team has been so much fun. With Madeline’s experience and Twist’s natural ability and drive, they’re shaping up to be one seriously impressive team.

Madeline is passionate about taking the skills she’s developed throughout her career and using them to help people uncover potential hidden problems in their homes.

Outside of work… it’s still pretty much all dogs. 😂 Madeline shares her life with her fiancé and six dogs, so whether she’s working, training, or adventuring, dogs are pretty much always at the center of it.

We’re incredibly lucky to have Madeline and Twist on our team- and excited to finally make their introduction official. 🐕‍🦺🤍

New doesn’t always mean problem-free. 👀

This home is only two years old- and Draco is alerting to mold odor.

We often hear, “But it’s a new build…”

Unfortunately, new construction is not immune to moisture and mold problems. In fact, we regularly see concerns in newer homes.

Homes are being built quickly. Materials can be exposed to rain or snow during construction. Details can be missed. Corners can be cut. And when moisture management, flashing, drainage, ventilation, or other building-envelope details aren’t done correctly, problems can start before the homeowner ever moves in.

Construction-defect and mold-related disputes involving newer developments are happening across the country, sometimes involving significant water intrusion and widespread damage.

And one of the challenges with a newer home?

Everything looks new.

Fresh paint. New drywall. New flooring. Clean finishes. There may be very few visible clues that something is happening behind them.

That’s where certified mold detection K9s can be incredibly valuable.

Our dogs aren’t searching for water stains or visible growth. They’re searching for mold odor, helping us narrow down where further investigation may be warranted- even when the potential source is concealed behind beautiful, brand-new finishes.

Old home. New home. Even brand-new construction.

Never let the age- or appearance- of a home give you a false sense of security.

New and shiny only tells you what you can see.

Our dogs help us investigate what you can’t. 🐕🔎

Why does hearing “mold is everywhere” feel like complete torture?

Because we know.

The frustrating part is when that statement is used to imply that mold growing inside a home isn’t a big deal, can’t be avoided, or isn’t worth addressing.

Yes, mold exists naturally in our environment. Outdoors, it’s part of an ecosystem with natural checks and balances.

Inside your home, it does not have those same checks and balances.

When mold is actively growing indoors, it becomes an indoor air quality and building health concern. Some types of mold can present greater health concerns than others, which is one of many reasons indoor mold growth shouldn’t simply be dismissed with “mold is everywhere.”

But even if we completely remove the health conversation:

Mold growing in your home is telling you there is a moisture problem.

Mold needs moisture to grow.

Whether that growth is behind a wall, under flooring, in an attic, or somewhere else you can’t see, the goal isn’t to make your home completely “mold free.”

The goal is to improve the indoor air quality and indoor environment, determine why mold is growing there in the first place, locate the source, and address the moisture conditions allowing it to grow.

So yes, mold is everywhere.

But that was never the argument.

If you’ve ever had a doctor, landlord, contractor, family member- or anyone else- dismiss your concerns with “mold is everywhere,” this one’s for you.

Send this to the person who still needs to hear it:

We’re not trying to eliminate mold from the planet.
We’re trying to stop it from growing where we live and breathe.

There’s a difference.

Cats out of the bag…
And IT’S OFFICIAL 👀

The Mold Mutts has NEW service packages!

We’ve been working on this for a long time, quietly soft-launched it a few weeks ago, and now we’re finally ready to share it with everyone.

You can now choose from three levels:

🐾 Detection
🐾 Detection+
🐾 Detection Elite

Our certified K9 mold detection searches are still at the heart of what we do. What’s new is the ability to choose how far you want us to take the investigation- from locating potential sources of mold odor with our dogs to incorporating building investigation tools, moisture investigation, thermal imaging, borescope work, and detailed reporting.

Different homes have different needs. Different clients have different goals. Now our services can better reflect that.

Not sure which package makes sense for your situation? Reach out! We’re happy to walk you through the options and help you decide.

Happy National Dog Day to all our k9 friends out there. Whether they work or just work your patience- we love them.

And a special shoutout to the boys of The Mold Mutts. These guys hold a special place in the world as my buddies in and out of work.
The best partners a girl could ever ask for 🤍

We work hard to get our dogs to a point where what the handler is doing simply doesn’t matter.

If they’re in odor- they stay.

We can ask them to check somewhere else.
We can point, tap, or offer another area.
We could do the chicken dance and walk right out of the room. 😂

But if that dog believes they’re at the greatest source of odor, our movement, body language, and suggestions shouldn’t change their answer.

That level of independence is important to us. We don’t want a dog looking to the handler for confirmation- we want a dog confident enough in their nose to say, “Nope. It’s here.”

Building that kind of consistency and reliability takes a lot of time and repetition, but man… watching them become that committed to odor makes every bit of it worth it. 😎🐾

This one is for our clients who kept searching. 🖤

The ones who were told, “It’s probably not your house.”
“It’s not mold.”
“Everything looks fine.”

But something in their gut kept telling them there was more to the story.

So they kept asking questions.
They kept advocating for themselves and their families.
They kept looking for answers- even when it would have been easier to give up.

And then we watched our dogs stop, stare, and identify areas that gave them a new place to investigate.

We will never tell someone that mold is the cause of their symptoms- that’s a conversation for qualified healthcare professionals.

But we can help answer a different question: Is there a potential mold source hiding in your environment that deserves a closer look?

To every client who refused to stop searching for answers: we see you, and we’re proud of you for trusting yourself enough to keep going.

Sometimes the breakthrough starts with simply refusing to accept “we don’t know” as the end of the story. 🐾

The nose doesn't lie. And here his nose was telling us mold odor was present and a problem.

Would this have concerned you?
