This wedding guest look, and the way captured it, deserves to be documented in its very own post.

Bravo to you, best dressed guest! 👏I can’t stop thinking about this photo and how much I love it.

Lately…
I’m here, taking care of myself, my family, and my business as best I know how. Working on getting my full planning clients moved along, starting a couple new interior decorating projects, and trying to wrap up year-end books. I’ve heard from a few new couples recently, and am looking forward to getting to know more lovely people.

This one will stick with me. While I’m thrilled with the way the design turned out, it’s the people that made this wedding.

Farrah and Sebastien are creative, fun, respectful of others, and very in love- all things that could be felt throughout the day. Their 40 person guest list felt like a roster for some sort of beautiful artist commune of talented people who shared their values and had genuine adoration for them.

While not necessarily aware of it beforehand, I now realize this wedding was laid out like a well written recipe. Here are my best pieces of advice (not just from this event, but over years of planning) to share with someone who may be planning a wedding of their own:

- Keep your guest list small. Like under 50 people. You’ll feel closer to the people that are there, and it’s the number one way to keep your budget down.

- Keep the DIY to a minimum.
Just because you can do it, doesn’t mean you should. Nothing will dissolve into stress quicker than a DIY project that takes way more time and energy than you anticipated (hint: it’s all of them). You’ll end up throwing money at the problem at zero dark thirty.

- Incorporate as many personal touches as you can. Have music played that you actually listen to, sing a song with your dad, make your signature cocktails actually about you, write your own vows.

- Invest in the people- your vendors. Remember that small guest list? The money you may have spent on tons of food and alcohol and table linens and centerpieces and lighting your gigantic tent could go to paying a handful of true professionals who have reputations of being kind, trustworthy, and easy to work with. They will be the ones who will pull it all together, work their asses off, and take your ideas and run. Let them do their jobs. You won’t have to worry. How do you find these people? A wedding planner certainly helps. But if you don’t have one: Are their emails friendly? When you talk to them on the phone, do they sound calm, warm and informed? Aside from their experience, this type of standard human decency is incredibly important. If something isn’t sitting right with you, trust yourself and move on to the next.

This spooky night deserves a highlight before Halloween week is over :). This wedding had it all- fog machines, dramatic lighting installations, multiple locations, ravens in the trees, guests in full costumes, a black wedding dress that turned into a fabulous pants suit, “candy boys” in place of a flower girl (they threw candy at the guests as they danced down the aisle 😂), a touching memorial to the bride’s father, a very elaborate Nightmare Before Christmas cake, dozens of pumpkins… I could keep going. Oh, and I was in the early stages of pregnancy and feeling absolutely terrible. But we did it!!! And it was every bit as grand as it sounds! This angel baby of a couple became fast friends. It was an honor to be a part of their day.

Skyler & Cole 🤍

And just like that, the last wedding before baby comes is complete. This was a really fun wedding to help design and plan. I ended up not being able to attend in person due to high blood pressure induced bed rest (I am doing well though!), so stepped up and handled all the day-of coordination. Endlessly thankful for her and her team. Everything turned out so wonderful.

Thank you to all the vendors that worked so hard (in the 98 degree heat!)

(shoutout Jacque!)

And all the friends and family who contributed so much!

A bright and sunny start to wedding season 🌹 (coming in with the most helpful assist 🧡) (best cake I’ve ever eaten)
