According to USCIS, the U Visa is for victims of certain crimes who have suffered mental or physical abuse and are willing to assist law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of the crime. It was designed to help law enforcement investigate cases like domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking while protecting victims.
Green Card Eligibility for U Visa Holders: You may apply for a Green Card if you’ve been continuously present in the U.S. for at least three years in U status and have cooperated with law enforcement.
