Ever felt the sudden urge to just scream or bolt out of the room? If you happen to be a human living in the modern world, the answer is definitely yes. And hereâs the thing: thatâs not an âanger issue,â and itâs not random. Thatâs your body doing exactly what it was built to doâtrying to protect you.
The tricky part about being an adult is that we rarely get to finish those impulses. When stress hits at work, in traffic, or during a tough conversation, we canât just jump up, shake it off, or run away. We have to sit still, smile, and act like everything is totally fine.
So what happens to all that raw, survival energy? It gets trapped. It stays locked right there in your muscles and nervous system, showing up days or weeks later as chronic tightness, sudden fatigue, or that constant, low-grade buzzing feeling of not being able to relax.
This is where somatic journaling comes in. Itâs not about analyzing your thoughts or writing a perfect story. Itâs simply paying attention to the physical urges your body hasnât had the opportunity to finish, and finally giving it permission to do so.
Give yourself the opportunity to explore:
* What or who is your body silently trying to push away or set a boundary with?
* What kind of environment, person, or physical comfort does your body need right now to feel truly safe again?
* What emotion is tucked right beneath that physical sensation? Is that shoulder tightness actually unexpressed anger? Is that heavy chest just unwept tears?
Take your time with this today. Thereâs no right or wrong way to feel, and you donât have to fix everything in one sitting. Just offer yourself the same grace youâd give to a good friend, and let your body take the lead.
Your body has been looking out for you for a long time.
Today, let yourself look out for it. đ¤
