Government!!!

I’ve done a little consulting work for one of the large agencies in the State of Florida. I’ve invoiced them the agreed upon fee just like I would any other client. The agency has been very happy with my work and continues to engage me.

But only a government agency would charge me a transaction fee for paying the invoice!

Three invoices… total transaction fee: $63.00. This wasn’t for electronic transfer. I billed them “old school” - sent them paper invoices via snail mail; waited for them to send me paper checks via snail mail.

Granted, $63.00 is not that much money proportionately to the amount I billed them for my consulting services, but this is just another simple example of how government operates in a totally different world than the private sector. In essence, I’m being charged a tax from the State government for performing the services they contract me to provide and I provided.

Pay attention. Government of the people, by the people, for the people is being jeopardized every day in a multiplicity of ways.
