Before the Opportunity — Professional Availability

Being interested in an opportunity is one thing.

Being professionally available for it is another.

A casting notice, audition, performance opportunity, collaboration, industry event, or career connection may require you to respond quickly and provide information within a specific timeframe.

Before the opportunity arrives, ask yourself:

• Is my schedule available?
• Are my materials ready?
• Is my contact information current?
• Can I communicate professionally?
• Can I meet the required deadline?

Professional Readiness isn’t about being ready for everything.

It’s about developing yourself so that when the right opportunity comes along, you’re in a position to respond.

A professional introduction should provide more than your name.

When attending a casting, conference, showcase, sports function, fashion event, creator gathering, screening or networking program, people should be able to understand your professional direction without hearing your entire history.

In approximately 15 seconds, explain:

* Who you are
* What you do
* What you are developing
* Why you are in that environment

Your introduction should also reflect the setting.

The way you introduce yourself at a casting may differ from how you introduce yourself at a music conference, fashion event, sports function or production gathering.

Preparation does not mean memorizing one speech and repeating it everywhere.

It means understanding your purpose, communicating clearly and adjusting appropriately to the professional environment.

You do not need to explain everything you have ever done.
