To Whom Much Is Given, Much Is Required

I’m deeply honored to share that I’ve been appointed to serve on the Orange County Citizen Review Panel for Human Services.

This appointment feels different, more purposeful, more divine. In today’s world, where compassion and accountability are needed more than ever, I take this opportunity not as a position, but as a responsibility to lead, to listen, and to serve.

I’ve never sought positions, stepped over others, or spoken ill to reach any level of recognition. Every door that has opened in my life has been orchestrated by God, in His timing and through His grace.

My favorite scripture, Habakkuk 2:2-3, reminds me:

“Write the vision and make it plain… though it may tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come to pass.”

Every step, every delay, every lesson has led to this moment. I’m humbled and grateful to continue walking in my purpose as a servant leader, guided by faith, integrity, and the unwavering belief that change begins with service.

👣 11,776 steps. One mission. Countless lives at stake.

Today, I walked the halls of our nation’s capital with a clear purpose: to ensure that maternal and infant health remains a priority not an afterthought.

With every step, I carried the stories of mothers who didn’t make it home, babies born too soon, and families struggling without access to the care they deserve. The U.S. still has the highest rates of infant and maternal mortality among high-income countries a statistic we can and must change.

I met with local staffers to advocate for the continued funding of Healthy Start and other life-saving programs. These initiatives don’t just offer services—they build trust, offer mental health support, and close the gaps in care that too often cost lives.

The data is clear:
• Nearly 24 maternal deaths per 100,000 births in the U.S.
• Black and Brown women bear the highest risk.
• 5.4 infant deaths per 1,000 live births far above other developed countries.

But together, we can change this.

Let’s keep fighting for every womb, every baby, and every mother.

Your voice matters your vote matters these lives matter.

“To whom much is given, much is required.” – Luke 12:48

There’s nothing more humbling than being recognized as a subject matter expert and invited for the second year—to present my research before a body of peers, policymakers, legislators, executive agencies, and fellow change agents.

As I continue to advocate for maternal mental health, I carry the voices of the women who suffer in silence. Black women are 3 to 4 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than their white counterparts. That fact alone should shake the very core of our health systems and policy priorities.

Many people ask why I do this work. The answer is simple: Because I too suffered in silence. I know what it means to need a voice in the room. That’s why I remain committed to pushing for policy change, equitable healthcare, and research that centers the experiences of women—especially those navigating postpartum depression and infertility.

This week will be filled with intensive writing, meetings, workshops, and seminarsbut I am ready. Because when it comes to fighting for the well-being of women, especially Black women, I will always show up.

Your intuition whispers. Anxiety shouts.

This powerful reminder touches on something many of us struggle with:

How do I know if it’s my gut or my fear talking?

As a mental health therapist, I often help clients explore the difference between anxiety and intuition. Here’s a little psych education to help you reflect:

• Anxiety is future-focused. It tends to catastrophize, ruminate, and feel loud and urgent. It’s a physiological response that can hijack your nervous system, making you feel like you’re in danger—even when you’re not.

• Intuition, on the other hand, is quiet and rooted in the present. It often arises as a calm knowing or a gentle nudge. It doesn’t yell; it simply is.

Learning to distinguish between the two is foundational to healing.

Why? Because anxiety can drown out our inner wisdom, leaving us confused, disconnected, and doubting ourselves.

But when we practice calming the nervous system and tuning into our body’s cues, we start to rebuild trust—with ourselves.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by inner noise lately, you’re not alone. It takes time and practice to reconnect with your intuition, but it is possible—and you’re worthy of that peace.

Gentle prompt:
Take one deep breath.
What does your inner voice whisper, beneath the noise?

May is Mental Health Awareness Month.

Change doesn’t happen all at once. It’s a process—a journey that often begins at the breaking point.

This month, we honor the invisible battles:

The shock that hits first.
The denial that whispers, “This can’t be real.”

The panic, the spiral, the numbness.

The stillness in depression where everything feels like too much and not enough.

And then, one quiet day, a decision is made. A moment of truth. A breath of courage.

From there, transformation begins. Not perfectly. Not linearly. But honestly.

If you find yourself anywhere along this curve, know this: You are not alone.

Your story matters.
Healing is real.
Change is possible.

This May, let’s talk. Let’s listen. Let’s show up for ourselves and each other.
