There’s a clear shift happening in the simulation and training space right now:

Less focus on building entirely new, custom systems…More focus on adapting proven commercial technologies in a way that can be sustained and upgraded over time.

And it makes sense.

The industry is building systems expected to operate for 10–20+ years, while the underlying technology evolves every few years. That gap forces customers into a tough spot:

• Replace entire systems (expensive and disruptive), or
• Hold onto aging technology and accept declining performance

The better path is designing systems that can evolve alongside the technology.

At Q4 Services, we’ve already been moving in that direction through our planned technology refresh program—enhancing visual performance without tearing out and replacing entire systems, and we design our displays to utilize and integrate with open standards.

That approach is part of a broader upgradeable system architecture, and:

• Systems designed for upgrade from day one
• Alignment to commercial technology cycles—not working against them
• A move toward modular architectures where subsystems can be refreshed independently

The goal is simple:

Extend system life, maintain training fidelity, and reduce lifecycle cost—without starting over every time technology advances.

𝗘𝗠𝗣𝗟𝗢𝗬𝗘𝗘 𝗦𝗣𝗢𝗧𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧

At Q4, we are fortunate to have team members whose diverse experiences and contributions make a measurable impact. As our Purchaser, Brandon Smith plays a key role in supporting operations by sourcing the materials and supplies that keep our business running smoothly.

Since joining the team, Brandon has significantly improved the responsiveness, timeliness, and overall effectiveness of the purchasing function. He has been instrumental in identifying, evaluating, and establishing alternate material sources, particularly supporting our manufacturing operations. Through research and strong vendor partnerships, he has successfully negotiated volume pricing, reduced costs, and implemented more efficient distribution arrangements with key suppliers.

Before joining Q4, Brandon built a solid foundation in operations and leadership, including managing storage facilities and serving in a general management role in the food service industry, experiences that helped shape his discipline, teamwork, and adaptability.

Outside of work, Brandon enjoys exploring local attractions, spending time at theme parks, and playing disc golf.
