🪳 WHY ARE WE SEEING MORE ROACHES THIS SUMMER?

The answer: **Central Florida weather.**

After 22 years in pest control, Joe Martini has seen plenty of Florida summers — and this one has brought some unusual pest activity.

Extreme heat combined with heavy afternoon rain is driving more outdoor roaches, including American, Australian, Smokybrown, and Florida Woods roaches, toward garages, porches, and sometimes inside homes looking for shelter.

The important thing to know: **seeing an occasional large roach does not automatically mean you have an infestation.**

These roaches typically live outdoors around mulch, trees, drains, leaf litter, wood, and other damp areas. During periods of extreme heat and rain, they can become more active and wander into structures.

🛡️ **Is your regular pest control still working? Absolutely.**

Our professional treatments are designed to help create a protective barrier around your home and target pests when they encounter treated areas or bait. An occasional roach may enter your garage or home before the product has had a chance to take effect.

Our goal isn’t to eliminate every roach outdoors in Central Florida — it’s to help keep them from becoming a problem inside your home.

A few things you can do to help:
• Keep garage doors closed when possible
• Reduce standing water and excess moisture
• Keep leaves, mulch, and debris away from the foundation
• Check door sweeps and weather stripping for gaps

If you’re seeing occasional large roaches this summer, don’t panic. It may simply be increased outdoor pest pressure caused by the heat and rain.

🪳 WHY WE SEEING MORE ROACHES THIS SUMMER?

A MESSAGE FROM MARTINI PEST SERVICES

After **22 years in Central Florida pest control**, I can tell you that this year has been unusual.

We are seeing an increase in **occasional invading roaches**, including:

• American • Florida Woods • Smokybrown**

These are commonly **outdoor roaches** that normally live around mulch, trees, leaf litter, wood, drains and other damp areas around your home.

# # # 🌧️ HOT WEATHER + HEAVY RAIN = MORE ROACH ACTIVITY

This summers extreme heat and repeated heavy afternoon rainfall** can cause outdoor roaches to become much more active and seek shelter. That shelter on most cases is your home.

When conditions outside become unfavorable, they may wander into **garages, porches and occasionally homes** looking for shelter.

**Seeing these particular roaches does NOT mean you have an infestation.**

University of Florida IFAS identifies many of these larger roaches as outdoor species that may occasionally enter structures and generally do not establish themselves indoors as readily as German cockroaches.

# # # 🛡️ SO, WILL YOUR REGULAR PEST CONTROL WORK?

**YES — THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT THE TREATMENT IS DESIGNED TO HELP WITH.**

The professional products we use are specifically formulated to target insects through **contact, residual exposure, ingestion, or a combination of these methods**, depending on the product being applied.

Some of our professional treatments are designed to be **ingested by the roach**. This is important to understand:

An occasional invading roach may not encounter or consume the product **outside**.

It may simply be wandering around until weather conditions or other factors cause it to enter the garage or structure. **Once it encounters an appropriate treated area or bait and consumes the product, the active ingredient does its job.**

So don't be alarmed if you see an occasional roach after your service.

**Seeing a roach does not automatically mean your treatment isn't working.**

Our goal is to maintain a protective treatment around your home and reduce the opportunity for these outdoor invaders to establish themselves indoors. UF/IFAS recommends perimeter treatments and appropriate baits or liquid products for larger outdoor cockroaches, while emphasizing that products must be used according to their labels.

# # # 🪳 WHAT YOU'RE SEEING MAY BE A WEATHER INVADER — NOT AN INFESTATION

Think about it this way:

**The goal isn't to make every roach in Central Florida disappear.**

**The goal is to keep them from becoming a problem inside your home.**

During periods of extreme heat and heavy rain, you may see Australian, American or wood roaches in the garage or around the exterior and even in living spaces. However they will not live long.

**That can be normal seasonal activity — especially during unusual weather conditions.**

# # # 👍 WHAT YOU CAN DO

• Keep garage doors closed when possible
• Reduce standing water and excess moisture
• Keep leaves, mulch and debris away from the foundation
• Make sure door sweeps and weather stripping are in good condition

# # # THE GOOD NEWS

**If you are seeing Australian, American or wood roaches in the garage or home during extreme Florida weather is often an outdoor-pressure issue — not an indoor infestation. During extreme weather like high heat temperatures this is typical. Just remember our rule of thumb is if you see an Australian or an American roach or an occasional invading roach in your garage it has gone through the product and it’s just a matter of time before the product takes affect.**

We are sadden to hear the passing of David Puddles. For those of you who have never met Dave he was the most caring and giving individual. Always quick to offer a hand when needed.

Dave and I would occasionally chat about business and life in general. The last actual conversation I had with Dave. I asked his advice on starting a pressure washing company.

My son was interested at the time. He not only gave me amazing advice. He offered to put him to work so he could learn the business. That was David! Don’t get me wrong David and I were not friends. Not in the hanging out weekly kind of way. But I considered him a friend.

When my dad past away. David reached out and gave my family his condolences. And literally said “ If you need anything. Please don’t hesitate to reach out”. That was David!! Rest in Peace brother
