Three years ago, when I retired from public education after 30 years of service, I knew one thing for certain: I wasn’t finished serving.
I began looking for causes that were close to my heart and ways I could continue investing in people and in my community.
My heart for service goes back many years.
After 30 years in public education, I knew retirement would not mean stepping away from helping others.
I wanted my next chapter to include mentoring, serving my community and investing in the next generation.
After completing my career in public education, I continued to study leadership, coaching and mentorship.
I knew I wanted this next chapter of my life to include helping shape the next generation.
Last night, Jose Villarreal and I attended the The Dream Come True Foundation-South Texas
fundraiser.
As a mentor with the Foundation, it was wonderful to see so many people come together to invest in young people and their futures.
One thing I value deeply is being able to connect with people across different backgrounds and viewpoints.
Service is bigger than politics.
When the goal is to strengthen our community and invest in the next generation, I believe there is far more that can unite us than divide us.
For me, this season is about more than building a business.
It is about building a legacy of service using my experience, relationships and leadership to help others grow and create opportunities for the generation coming behind us.
And I’m just getting started. ❤️
