I sit here this morning after having not fallen asleep easily last night, just thinking about what happened in our city in the wee hours of Saturday morning coming up with no answers but I have reached some conclusions. Over the next few days and months, especially in an election year, we are going to hear many words of hate and the spewing of disgusting thoughts, we are going to be fodder for campaigns or for those trying to prove their ideology is correct. We as a city cannot let that effect us. We cannot hate our brothers no matter where they are from or who they choose to love. The answers to the issues that face our world today is not to ban a group of people from our country because some of their religion or ethnic origin have decided to take a path of hate...if that is the case, then do we not need to gather every white supremacist and send them somewhere. These people are radical, they are fanatics, they are not the whole. We need to be vigilant, we need to do better job of screening, but nothing will ever be 100 percent. If we wish to keep our way of life we must honor the tenets which we are built, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, all men are created equal, innocent until proven guilty, give me your tired, your poor, your tired huddle masses yearning to be free, this is who we are as a nation, these are the freedoms that so many have died to defend in the centuries since the founding of this GREAT country of ours (and no it does not need to be made great again because it has never stopped being great) I believe that we, the people, are the key to this, not whomever becomes president, which party is the majority, we the people need to make sure that these tenets stay true and stop reacting out of fear or deep ingrained prejudice that is not acceptable or our way of life will disappear.
Also, we will begin to hear that those in the club were punished because of who they choose to love..and even worse my God's name will be invoked that He punished these people. I tell you and I am screaming..not my God, not my Lord and Savior...for He is a merciful and loving God...This the work of evil and hate..and that my friends is the devil. The truest thing my father ever said to me is believe this Angela Maria, satan is alive and working today. We are taught to love one another...not to hate, not to judge..we have only been tasked with loving each other.
So Orlando, we cannot control what happens or what is said about what has happened to our city, but we can show the world how to react and how to live through such a tragedy. We began yesterday with the long lines at blood banks, and the start of vigils, let us show them the only fitting response to this is LOVE. Love all who are personally touched, love and embrace our LGBT community and yes love and embrace our muslim brother and sisters...
We have always been the home of the HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH, now we are the home of the worst mass shooting in US history...Let's with arms open wide and hearts soaring...decide to stay the home of the happiest place on earth, because if we do perhaps no other community will get the title we earned on Saturday, yes we get to keep it, but if we do, love conquers hate...Let us vow that as a community...now lets go out and love one another, this one thing all of us can agree on....
Peace be with each of you..and we are ORLANDO STRONG..
