There's something uniquely humbling about returning to a project you helped build years ago.

This week, Strong Solar Solutions completed a solar removal and reinstall for a homeowner who needed a new roof. What made this project special is that I was actually part of the original installation many years ago during my early days at Solgen Power.

The original system had done exactly what it was supposed to do. The roof never leaked, the solar system performed well, and it was simply time for a roof replacement. But taking apart something you built years ago gives you a rare opportunity to reflect on how much you've learned.

As we removed the system, I could see small details that I would approach differently today. The string routing, the junction box entry points, and a handful of installation techniques weren't necessarily wrong—they met the standards of the time and served the homeowner well—but experience has taught me there are cleaner, more serviceable, and more efficient ways to do things.

One of the best parts of this reinstall was being able to apply everything I've learned over the years. We improved cable management, optimized string routing, refined our junction box entries, installed everything with today's best practices, and left the homeowner with a system that's ready to produce clean energy for many more years.

Growth is one of the things I love most about this industry. Every installation teaches you something, and the best contractors never stop learning. Being able to revisit one of my own early projects and make it even better was a reminder of how far we've come—not just as a company, but as craftsmen.

When most people think of electrical damage, they imagine burned wires or tripped breakers. The reality is that some of the most dangerous electrical damage can't be seen at all.

That's where a Megger Test, also known as an insulation resistance test, becomes one of the most valuable diagnostic tools available.

Every electrical wire in your home is surrounded by insulation designed to keep electricity safely contained. After events such as a house fire, water intrusion, smoke damage, lightning strikes, rodent damage, or even years of normal aging, that insulation can begin to break down—even if the lights still work and the breakers never trip.

A standard multimeter isn't designed to detect this type of hidden damage.

A Megger tester applies a controlled high-voltage test to the wiring and measures the insulation resistance in each individual circuit. This allows us to identify insulation failures that could eventually lead to:

Solar Panel Removal & Reinstall Completed in Seattle, WA | New Roof & Critter Guard

Another successful solar removal and reinstall completed in Seattle, Washington!

A few weeks ago, our team at Strong Solar Solutions came out to this Seattle homeowner's property to install critter guard around her existing solar panels. While we were on the roof completing the work, we noticed two major problems: the roof itself was in extremely poor condition, and there was significant damage from critters that had been living underneath the solar array.

We knew this needed a closer look, so we sent out our trusted roofing experts Ally Renewal PNW to inspect the roof. They immediately agreed with our concerns—the roof had reached the end of its useful life and needed to be replaced.

Another Customer Protected by Strong Solar Solutions – Tacoma, WA

One of the biggest reasons we started Strong Solar Solutions was to help homeowners who were left behind when their original solar installer disappeared. This week, we were reminded why that mission matters.

Last year, we helped a homeowner in Tacoma, Washington after her original installer, Lumio, went out of business. She had a roof leak beneath part of her solar array, so we carefully uninstalled 5 solar panels, repaired the leak, and then reinstalled all 5 panels so her system could continue producing safely and reliably.

A couple of weeks ago, one of her Enphase microinverters stopped producing power. We diagnosed the issue, handled the warranty claim with Enphase, received the replacement unit, and installed the new microinverter.

Normally, there is labor involved in diagnosing the system, processing the warranty, and replacing the equipment. We are a business, and we do have to make money to continue serving our customers. But in this case, we learned that this customer is an elderly woman living on her retirement income and simply didn't have the funds for the repair.

Sometimes the right decision isn't the most profitable one.

We made the decision to complete the warranty replacement completely free of charge, because helping someone in need was more important than sending an invoice. We believe that doing the right thing builds a stronger community, and we hope that kindness comes full circle.

Another rescued solar customer. Another reminder that choosing the right solar company is about much more than the price.

This week, Strong Solar Solutions completed the reinstallation of a customer's solar system after an incredibly frustrating journey. Their original solar installer went out of business, leaving them without long-term support. Later, when it was time for a roof replacement, they hired Artisan Electric & Solar to uninstall and reinstall the system. Unfortunately, before the reinstallation could be completed, Artisan also went bankrupt, leaving the homeowner with a roof, a pile of solar equipment, and no company to honor the work they had already paid for.

Stories like this are becoming far too common throughout Washington.

Artisan had been serving customers since 1985 and built a strong reputation over the years. Their situation is a reminder that even companies with decades of experience and an excellent reputation can face financial challenges.
