Observation hive update: these are photos from Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. You can see the bees have really started building comb in the upper frame. There’s even eggs in the bottom part of the frame. Worker bees start producing wax around days 12 to 14. They peek around day 18. You can tell a lot of bees have emerged from the original brood. By the looks of it, many are hitting their peak wax producing time.

Update on my observation hive.

Just an update on my observation hive. It’s really rebounding. Lots of brood and bees working on the top frame.

I loaded my observation hive last week with a small swarm I caught. It looks like a lot of bees. But from egg to emerging worker is 21 days. In that time several of the older bees will parish. I’m not sure about the existing queen. She may not have mated yet as the weather has not been ideal. It’s day six and I haven’t seen any larva yet. This could push the time before new workers even further out. Stay tuned for further updates.

I arrived at my Bee yard just in time to see this swarm exiting a beehive. I had a Nuc box with me. I hurried up and sprayed a little lemongrass on the entrance and set it down and it looks like they might decide it’s their new home. I guess we’ll see.
