What was inside the inner cover of one of my bee hives? It must have crawled onto the inner cover the last time I checked the hive. The bees used propolis to entomb the intruder. If you look at the very top part of the object , you can see that it is a snail. Bees don’t like foreign objects in their hives. They will entomb intruders if they can’t haul them out.

Caught this swarm 15 minutes ago. I got them in out of the rain just in time.

Observation hive update: these are photos from Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. You can see the bees have really started building comb in the upper frame. There’s even eggs in the bottom part of the frame. Worker bees start producing wax around days 12 to 14. They peek around day 18. You can tell a lot of bees have emerged from the original brood. By the looks of it, many are hitting their peak wax producing time.

Just an update on my observation hive. It’s really rebounding. Lots of brood and bees working on the top frame.
