Nothing but love for our friends at Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation and the generous people of the All Points North Foundation!
They have been nothing but helpful since day one 🌞 our team is looking forward to another year of change.

We are thrilled to announce that we are the recipient of a $100,000 grant through All Points North Foundation, which is funding the Indigenous manufacturing and installation of 20 solar thermal units on the homes of Indigenous Elders in the Midwestern United States. The project is in partnership with Native Sun’s 8th Fire Solar. These installations will help families keep stay warm during the frigid winters while reducing carbon emissions and supporting Indigenous jobs on a reservation with a 90% unemployment rate.

All but a single piece of an aluminum sheet in the solar thermal units is manufactured in Minnesota. 8th Fire Solar has begun manufacturing the units for this project, which will be installed in the coming months at reservations in and around Minnesota.

To learn more about what this program means to the community, here’s a statement from Gwe Gasco, the Program Coordinator at 8th Fire Solar.

"This program means a lot to all of us here at 8th Fire Solar, as this is something we have wanted to do for the last three years. It is also the biggest project we have taken on, with the biggest impact.

At 8th Fire Solar, our focus has always been bringing the simple technology of solar thermal to as many homes as possible - with a focus on tribal housing, where many of our relatives, friends, and a few of our team members live. Our original idea was to install panels on 10 Elder homes, and we tried to find funding in a few places. We brought this idea Hammond Climate Solutions Foundation, which took our foot-in-the-door idea and helped us make it a reality.

Work in the renewable energy field is almost always uphill, but those same hills over the greatest views of the future when we reach the top. We want to secure this future for the next generation.

As Indigenous people, we have always viewed our relationship with our environment and our Mama Akiing (Mother Earth) as one of the most critical aspects of our lives. Historically, we have always been water protectors, and land stewards; at 8th Fire Solar, we view renewable technologies as the modern way of protecting our people and our home.

I would like to offer a big miigwech (thank you) to the team at Hammond Climate Solutions and our generous friends at The All Points North Foundation for helping us bring this project to life."

Since 2018, an Indigenous nonprofit near the White Earth Nation in northwestern Minnesota has been installing solar thermal panels to cut home heating costs in impoverished communities.

Another happy customer! Thanks to Rob R. out of Montana for choosing 8th Fire Solar for his winter heating needs.
Rob installed a single 8 ft. panel on his shop, with an already installed solar PV system, his shop is now warmed and powered by the sun! His DIY approach cut a lot of the overhead cost off of the system, combine that with our already low pricing, and Rob is one happy (& warm) panel owner.

"Just wanted to say thanks for the great product. The experience from start to finish was painless. Everyone we dealt with was great and answered all questions I had. Install went perfect. Followed the directions and didn't have any problems. I almost can't wait for winter to have it in action. I am looking forward to working in a warm shop.
Thanks again, I will spread the word on your quality built heaters."
