🌱 Could a Cooperative Help Solve a Challenge in Our Community?

Bring your lunch and Join us Wednesday, September 30th at 12:00 p.m. for an opportunity to learn about Homegrown Prosperity, a new rural cooperative development initiative serving communities across Kansas and Missouri.

A representative, Kara Walker, from the Kansas Farmers Union will be here to explain how cooperatives can help communities work together to address local needs, create opportunities, build local ownership, and keep more economic value right here at home. There are also resources to support new or existing co-ops with technical assistance.

This is a cooperative education opportunity and you do NOT need to have a cooperative idea or any prior knowledge of co-ops to attend. Come learn what cooperatives are, how they work, and what possibilities they could offer for our community.

Discover Mitchell County is hosting a lunch and learn with Samantha Johnson, Director of Apprenticeships and Workforce Development at Fort Hays Tech | North Central and Mikey Hughes, Regional Director for In-State Business Development with the Kansas Department of Commerce.

Samantha Johnson, Director of Apprenticeships and Workforce Development at Fort Hays Tech | NC, will discuss opportunities for businesses to partner with the college, including: Apprenticeship programs, on-the-job training, student academic sponsorship opportunities, certificate programs, and more. Sam is who spoke at the NCRPC Eco Devo Roundtable earlier this year.

Mikey Hughes, Regional Director for In-State Business Development with the KDOC, will present incentive programs available primarily to manufacturing businesses. These programs can provide valuable tax credits and other assistance for capital improvements, equipment purchases, and workforce training.

🎾 The new tennis courts are ready! 🎾

We’re excited to see these courts being put to use just in time for the start of practice!

A quick note on the lines you’ll see:
⚪ Gray lines = Pickleball
🔴 Red lines = 10U Tennis

The courts were designed to give our community more opportunities to enjoy both tennis and pickleball! We kindly ask everyone to help keep the courts in good condition by keeping very muddy shoes, bikes, rollerblades, skates, and skateboards off the courts.

We’re so excited to see them being enjoyed! 🎾🏓
