Should you remove American Pondw**d from your pond?

Not always.

American pondw**d is a native aquatic plant found throughout Missouri. In the right amount, it's actually beneficial. It provides food for ducks and other wildlife, offers cover for fish, and creates habitat for the insects that support a healthy pond ecosystem.

The problem starts when it becomes overgrown.

Dense stands of American pondw**d can make fishing difficult, restrict access for recreation, slow water circulation, and contribute to oxygen depletion as the vegetation dies and decomposes.

The goal isn't to eliminate every plant—it's to maintain a healthy balance. Proper vegetation management keeps your pond functional while preserving the benefits that native aquatic plants provide.
