Employee Spotlight: Meet Mike Magalhaes

With 28½ years in the precast concrete industry and the last 6 years at M&W Precast, Mike brings a wealth of experience, dedication, and relationship-building expertise to our team as a Sales Representative.

For Mike, every day is about more than selling products. It's about building lasting partnerships. His deep background in both production and sales gives him a unique perspective, allowing him to better understand our customers' needs and deliver solutions they can trust. It's this combination of technical knowledge and genuine customer care that has helped him build a strong customer base throughout his career.

When asked what advice he'd give to someone entering the industry, Mike's answer reflects the mindset that's guided his success: ""Learn as much as you can, learn from your mistakes, and always listen to feedback, both from your coworkers and your customers.""

Outside of work, Mike is a proud husband, pet parent, and homeowner. And here's something many of his coworkers may not know…he's also a singer! 🎤

When asked to describe M&W Precast in one word, Mike chose "Growth". We couldn't agree more.

From Ottsville to JFK. ✈️

Last month, M&W Precast delivered and installed two precast structures at JFK Airport’s Terminal 6. A Surge Suppressor Room and a South Hardstand Area structure..

Three-sided structure measuring 11’ long x 6’-6” wide x 10’-7” ceiling height.

A Look Behind the Concrete 🦺

As part of our 80th Anniversary BBQ celebration, we had the opportunity to bring our business partners, customers, friends, and family behind the scenes at our plant in Ottsville. Guests were shuttled to the plant, where everyone was greeted with hard hats and safety glasses before getting an inside look at what goes into the products we make every day.

From a guided tour of our yard to walking through the plant and seeing our precast concrete being produced, guests got to experience the process firsthand. From raw materials to the finished products that become part of projects throughout our communities.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make our 80th Anniversary celebration so special. We’re grateful to have shared a behind-the-scenes look at how M&W builds what’s next.

A Well-Earned Retirement for Rick Morrison!

Some people leave behind a job when they retire. Others leave behind years of knowledge, experience, hard work, and a whole lot of memories.

This September, the M&W team gathered around the pizza table to celebrate Rick Morrison as he officially retired after many years with M&W Precast. He's worn a few different hats throughout his time here, but for the past 6 years, his days were spent in the fabrication and setting of precast buildings

Rick, congratulations on your retirement! We are grateful for everything you’ve contributed to M&W. We’ll miss having you around, and we wish you nothing but the best in this next chapter.

Modular Construction is Growing in Popularity!

M&W Precast recently provided a multi-stall men’s and women’s restroom and concessions building for the Interboro High School stadium. Designed for durability, flexibility, and easy maintenance, this precast building went from our facility to the job site and into service in just a few short weeks.

When the terrain is challenging, the right retaining wall system makes all the difference.

This residential project in Upper Black Eddy, PA, completed by Cam Landworks, features a 6' Verti-Block retaining wall built using M&W Precast's Standard Base Blocks and Standard Top Blocks.

✔ Full gravity wall design (no geogrid or tie-backs required)
✔ Natural stone architectural finish with a 2.5" reveal
✔ Built-in drainage system: the base block straddles a 4" corrugated pipe, while block voids filled with ¾" clean stone providing superior drainage & requiring less excavation, backfill and cutting into the solid rock mountainside

When site conditions demand a custom approach, engineering makes the difference.

This large retaining wall project in Cornwall, PA called for a specialized design to accommodate its close proximity to the main roadway.

Working with Streamline Concrete Inc. and Gilmore & Associates Inc., the final design utilized multiple rows of mass extenders, ranging from 84" to 48", to provide the necessary stability.
Once deliveries began, the pace never slowed! Up to four truckloads of block were delivered each day to keep the project moving.

This was no easy installation, but thanks to the preparation and hard work of the Streamline Concrete crew, the project was successfully completed.

🏈 Football season is almost here, and we're proud to help communities get ready for kickoff.

Our team installed two identical precast concrete press boxes at Simons Recreation Center in North Philadelphia.

Each 7' wide x 12' long press box insulated and includes a PTAC unit for cooling on the upper level. An internal spiral stair provides a secured access to the vinyl sliding viewing window above.
