Some routine tips for your Sunday!!

✨Starting your naptime routine 5-10 minutes before the end of your youngsters wake window will allow you to have them in bed by the end of their wake window! Doing so helps ensure your youngster isn’t overtired going down - which can lead to difficulty falling asleep!

✨By switching off with your partner putting your youngster to bed for the night, your youngster will take cues for sleep by WHAT they are doing (the steps) rather than WHO is doing it! Also helps reduce risk of extra protesting as youngster gets older if the parent doing tonight’s bedtime isn’t the one who “typically” does.

✨Youngster (babies - toddlers) live in a pretty black and white world. Keeping your routine exactly the same each night will help your youngster learn sleep is coming and expected, and set them up for a successful night! Consistency is really the 🔑 to everything sleep!

What routine tips have you started to implement that is working well for your family? Drop in the comments!

As parents, it is our natural tendency to go and help our children as soon as we can! This urge is totally healthy and normal! So, I am in no way telling you not to respond to your youngster when he/she needs you, especially if your youngster is sick! 💯

✨But did you know that studies and evidence has shown that if you wait at least 3 minutes when your youngster wakes in the middle of the night, your youngster will have a higher likelihood of being able to self-soothe by their first birthday?

Just a couple of benefits! Waiting a few minutes can help with:
✨Ensuring your youngster is actually awake and not just in an active sleep stage.
✨Promoting independent sleep skills. Allows your youngster to have the opportunity to go back to sleep, or fall asleep initially, on their own.

💞Head over to my stories today where I will discuss specific AGE and DEVELOPMENTALLY appropriate wait times!

Often times I will hear from moms of older babies or toddlers that they “don’t know if it’s too late to learn how to sleep independently.” Let me honestly tell you, even if your younger is 9, 12, 15, or 36 months old, the door to better rest for you and your youngster is not closed.

Are you looking to help your youngster develop better (or even better) sleep habits and skills? The first place you can start in getting your youngster sleeping better is bedtime!

My 3 big DOs of bedtime are:
✨Predictable Bedtime Routine: Think the movie Groundhog Day 😉. Do the same exact thing each night before tucking your youngster in. The consistency helps your youngster learn and is very reassuring to them!
✨Take Turns! This is SO helpful in helping your child learn independent sleep skills. It allows your youngster to take cues from the routine, rather than the person. Mom and Dad taking turns doing bedtime routine, especially with toddlers, is very beneficial!
✨Watch the Clock! Keep an eye on the time for wake window before bedtime, when to start routine, and for a consistent tuck-in time!

SWIPE for more details!

🎊 Head over to my stories later today where I will be discussing specific bedtime routine steps, toddler bedtime tips, and more!
