A new schedule starts tomorrow—and we’re hiring! Applications Close Monday November 2, 2026
Beginning Saturday, October 24, at 7 a.m., Consolidated Fire District #1 will transition to a 48/96 work schedule. Our full-time crews will work 48 hours on duty followed by 96 hours off—two days on, four days off.
For our community, this changes how our crews rotate—not our commitment to being there when you need us. Emergency response, training, equipment readiness, and daily responsibilities will remain priorities throughout each tour.
We’re also growing our team! Applications are still open for full-time firefighter positions. Join a combination department where career and volunteer firefighters work together to serve our Douglas County communities.
With a new schedule and additional staffing on the way, this is an opportunity to build your career and help shape the future of CFD #1.
Application deadline: Monday, November 2, 2026
Learn more about the positions, qualifications, and benefits, and submit your application at https://www.dgcoks.gov/careers Look for Firefighter – Consolidated Fire District #1.

We are saddened with this news as the successor of the late Bill Benjamin, Chief Richard Lehmann, has passed away. Chief Lehmann was a wealth of knowledge. Proving he was the premium candidate to succeed our founding director. Our thoughts are with Chief Lehmann and his family.

Rest easy, Chief.

It is with heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of Chief Richard "Rich" Lehmann.

Chief Lehmann was a fixture in fire service higher education at Metropolitan Community College, dedicating years to mentoring, educating, and shaping future generations of firefighters. In the classroom, he challenged his students to think critically, lead with integrity, and uphold the highest standards of the profession.

His impact is felt daily across the Kansas City region in the countless firefighters, officers, and leaders who learned under his guidance.

We extend our deepest condolences to the Lehmann family during this time.

Rest easy, Chief.

BIG NEWS FOR EUDORA FD!

The City of Eudora says it will hire three full-time firefighters in 2027 if voters approve a 0.5% public safety sales tax in November.

If approved, Eudora's total sales tax rate would not increase, as a different 0.5% sales tax — used to pay off debt associated with Eudora's community building and pool — is set to expire at the end of the year.
