If you're self employed and your biz is profitable, you most likely need to be paying in quarterly estimates. You are paying in the estimated amount of tax for your earnings during April 2023 - May 2023. Since you aren't paid by a W-2 from an employer, taxes aren't being withheld and paid to the government on your behalf throughout the year. This means, you need to do it yourself by paying quarterly taxes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

✨ normalize taking breaks✨It’s time for my annual break.

As biz owners, we have a lot on our plates and a lot on our minds. In order for me to sustain my business, I have to take a break. I have to rest. I have to reset.

I think this makes us better entrepreneurs and people. I built my biz with the option to take a break when I need. It was a big reason I took that risk. I’m so grateful that this job and my clients allow me to take some time for me. I encourage you to do the same, if you can.

My husband and I are traveling to California to go to Yosemite and Sequoia national parks and then on to Hawaii. 🙌🏼

I’ll be out of the office until June 22nd and I can’t wait to connect with you when I return. 💕

QuickBooks Explained: Which Version Should I Use?

There are two main versions of QuickBooks I use and recommend for my clients, QuickBooks Self Employed & QuickBooks Online. Today I’ll dive deep into QuickBooks Self Employed. ⬇️

This version is best for solopreneurs just getting started or business owners in a service based industry with low overhead. The software is simple and easy to use but there is little customization capability.

The categories within QBSE are set up to mimic the IRS form Schedule C. While this is helpful because you will likely file this form at tax time, it also limits your ability to create customized categories for specific income or expenses you'd like to break out.

Main Features & Capabilities:
• Tracking income & expenses
• Invoicing clients
• Tracking mileage
• Capture & organize receipts
• Run basic reports

Does deciding how much to pay yourself overwhelm you? You're not alone! This decision is a tough one for any business owner. Start by considering these questions:

1. Is your business profitable? If the answer is no, then it's simple - at this point you can't pay yourself.

2. Do you need the income for your personal finances? If the answer is no then I highly encourage you to save those profits to invest back into your business/build up cash reserves. Let's learn the lesson of COVID. The world can change in an instant and it pays to be prepared!

3. How much do you need for
a) personal spending
b) business investments (think hiring someone or the additional cost of a software that would help grow your biz)
Be specific and realistic here. Information is power!

Every business owner is different and furthermore every business owner has different goals and values. Use the questions above to clarify your priorities. Clear priorities is the key to paying yourself with confidence. And as our queen says, "clear is kind". Be kind to yourself and get clear on what you want and need.
