Sorry for the jump scare! Sharing because we see SO MANY posts calling every brown spider a brown recluse. 😂

They’re common in KC, but not every brown spider is one.

A few things to look for:

• 6 eyes, arranged in 3 pairs. 👀 👀 👀
• Darker “violin” 🎻 marking on the back
• Legs are uniform in color (no stripes)
• They prefer dark, undisturbed areas

And about the bite…
Most brown recluse bites are mild and heal on their own. The nasty-looking skin lesions you’ve seen? They absolutely can happen, but are less common than the internet makes it seem.

If you have a Brown Recluse problem, you know who to call!

Not all bugs are pests - checkout the size of this Leopard Slug! 🐆

They mostly eat decaying matter, and even other “pest” slugs. Generally they will leave your garden alone and can be beneficial!

🐝 Yellow jacket season is here!

August marks the beginning of peak yellow jacket season, and their nests can be hiding in places you’d never expect - underground, inside wall voids, or under landscaping.

Unlike many wasps or bees, yellow jackets are aggressive defenders of their nest. If you see wasps flying in and out of an area - call the pros!

Stay safe out there - and watch where you step! 🐝
