Meet Karie Kneller, one of our Project Managers and Urban Designers! Karie joined the team earlier this year, and if you’ve worked with her since then, you already know she’s a great addition. Now it’s time for everyone else to meet her too.
Karie’s path to planning has been anything but typical. Before she got into planning, she worked as a paramedic (ask her about the baby she delivered on her first day after orientation!). She then went on to study interior design, which made her want to design beautiful spaces on a bigger scale. That led her to UMKC for a degree in Urban Planning + Design. Since then, she’s worked in the private, non-profit and public sectors, and now she’s come full circle back to the private side with us.
She’s especially drawn to the little places that make a city feel alive. In her words, “People gathering in parks to play frisbee, listen to live music or play chess... the surprise of a beautiful mural in a random alley, sidewalk cafes outside coffee shops and bookstores. These third spaces intrigue me.”
When she’s not working, you can find her trying a new restaurant with her husband and friends before catching some live music, reading a good thriller or getting back into painting.
