Why zoysia wants a reel mower. Zoysia looks its best under an inch, and a rotary blade cannot cut that low without scalping. A reel mower shears the blade like scissors, so the cut heals fast and holds color in the heat. The result is lower, denser, tighter turf that crowds out w**ds. That is manicured, not just mowed, on Winter Park and Oviedo lawns. Free estimates at oviedolawnandlandscape.com

Fall color that takes the heat. Annuals that melted by August? September in Zone 9b is still brutal on the wrong plants. Pentas, coleus and caladiums shrug off the heat and feed pollinators until the first cool snap. Fresh mulch, a clean edge and drip at the roots keep the bed looking full for months, not weeks. Landscape beds for Winter Park, Maitland and Oviedo homes. Free estimates at oviedolawnandlandscape.com

Dry spots that are not a disease. Same brown patch every summer in the same corner? Before you treat it for fungus or bugs, watch the sprinklers run. One tilted head, a clogged nozzle or a rotor that stopped turning leaves a wedge that never gets wet. We run every zone, fix the arc and spacing, then measure output with catch cups. Even water means an even lawn across Winter Park, Oviedo and Winter Springs. Free estimates at oviedolawnandlandscape.com

What sod day looks like. Sod that fails usually sat on the pallet too long or went down on hard, dry ground. Fresh-cut sod is alive for about 24 hours, so we grade, wet the soil and lay it the same day it is cut. Tight staggered seams, rolled flat and watered in within the hour is how new sod in Winter Park and Oviedo roots in about a week. September is prime sod season in Central Florida. The bug eating your lawn in September. Yellow patches turning brown along the driveway and sidewalk, in the hottest and driest spots first, is the classic sign of southern chinch bugs in St. Augustine. They suck the sap out of the grass and spread outward from those edges. Part the grass at the edge of the damage and look for tiny black bugs with white wings. Confirm before you treat, then treat early, water properly and keep thatch down so it does not come back. Serving Winter Park, Oviedo, Winter Springs and Maitland. Planting a palm the right way. Most palms that yellow a year after install were planted too deep or never rooted in. Palm roots start at the base of the trunk, so burying that base slowly suffocates the tree. We set it at the height it grew, backfill with the native sand, brace it and water deep until it is rooted. Fall is a great time to plant palms in Winter Park, Winter Springs and Oviedo while the soil is still warm. Free estimates at oviedolawnandlandscape.com

The last feeding of the year is the one that matters most. Orange and Seminole County pause nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizer from June 1 through September 30, so October is when Winter Park, Maitland and Oviedo lawns get their real fall feeding. Slow-release nitrogen with potassium builds roots that carry the lawn through winter and next spring. Feed too late and you push soft growth into cool nights. Holes that heal a lawn. If water runs off your yard and the ground feels like concrete, the soil is compacted and the roots are stuck near the surface. Core aeration pulls plugs and opens channels for air, water and fertilizer while the grass is still actively growing, which in Winter Park and Oviedo means right now. Leave the plugs on the lawn, they melt back in within a couple of weeks. Healthy lawns start with healthy living soil. Free estimates at oviedolawnandlandscape.com

Sod that fades in a few weeks usually failed before it was ever laid. Bad grade, dead sprinkler heads, bone-dry soil. September in Winter Park and Oviedo is prime install time, with warm soil, cooler nights and rain still helping roots knit in. Our order is simple. Grade it, test every head, prep the soil, then lay sod. That is why it takes. Winter Park sod, Oviedo sod, Winter Springs, Maitland. Free estimates at oviedolawnandlandscape.com
