When you’re renting and the power goes out, it’s frustrating.

But when you finally buy your first home, a blackout hits differently.

Suddenly, you’re the one responsible for the melting groceries, the freezing or overheating bedrooms, and the kids crying in the dark. There’s no landlord to call.

You worked too hard to get your family into this house to let a bad storm take away your comfort.

That’s why the ultimate first-home upgrade isn't new paint or a fancy couch—it’s a Briggs & Stratton standby generator. The second the grid fails, it kicks on to keep your fridge running, your AC humming, and your kids feeling safe.

You’ve got enough to worry about as a new homeowner. Power shouldn't be on the list.

Let us help you find the perfect backup power solution: https://ow.ly/413n50ZeCCg

Want to know if a product is truly worth buying?

Ask the people who design, engineer, and sell it—then ask if they trust it enough to use it in their own homes.

At Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions, many of the fathers on our team have done exactly that. The same standby generators they recommend every day are the ones installed at their own homes, protecting their families when the grid goes down.

Because when you understand the technology at a deep level, the choice becomes clear.

Wishing a happy Father’s Day to the dads at Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions—and to all the fathers who carry that same responsibility every day: protecting the people who matter most.

Solar panels are useless when the grid goes down—unless you have the right battery storage to back them up.

A lot of homeowners make this mistake. They assume installing solar panels automatically means they are safe from blackouts. But if your system is grid-tied without batteries, your power goes down right along with the utility grid.

That was the harsh reality for a vital community hub, Firestorm Books, in Asheville, NC, when Hurricane Helene hit in 2024. Despite having a brand-new solar array on the roof, they were left completely in the dark. They couldn't charge rescue tools, keep the lights on after dark, or protect perishable medications for the 5,000 neighbors they were trying to help.

To ensure they never face that vulnerability again, they partnered with the non-profit Footprint Project to build a fully independent solar microgrid. At Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions, we were honored to donate the advanced battery storage technology required to make them 100% self-sufficient.

"We’ve donated batteries for years to help people and organizations recover from disasters and operate off grid," says Sequoya Cross, VP of Energy Storage. "Our batteries have been used around the world for more than a decade in some of the harshest and most remote environments, so they’ve proven themselves to be the reliable, dependable choice."

True energy resilience isn't just about catching the sun; it's about having the proven storage to keep the lifelines active when the grid fails. Whether it's a community center or your family home, don't leave your power to chance.

The families who weather outages best aren't the lucky ones.

They're the prepared ones.

As hurricane season begins, the conversation often focuses on storm forecasts. But forecasts don't determine who loses power, how long restoration takes, or how disruptive an outage becomes.

Preparation does.

Our latest guide breaks down the 2026 hurricane outlook, key NOAA updates, and practical steps homeowners can take now to be ready before the next storm threatens the grid.

Because when the lights go out, confidence comes from having a plan.

As CSU researchers emphasize, "It only takes one hurricane making landfall to make it an active season." In 2025, we saw 13 named storms with three reaching Category 5 intensity. Even in a "slower" year, a single strike can devastate local infrastructure and cause prolonged power outages.

Ever wonder how massive venues like Gillette Stadium and Mercedes-Benz Stadium stay perfectly powered during massive summer events like the FIFA World Cup?

The secret is something called a microgrid. These venues use a combination of giant solar arrays and dedicated on-site power storage. If the main utility grid experiences a surge in demand, the stadium can seamlessly switch to its own self-contained power system without missing a single beat.

How does that compare to your neighborhood?

Unlike self-contained stadiums, our neighborhood blocks rely on a shared distribution grid. When high summer temperatures hit at the exact same time major crowds flood the area, the regional demand for electricity spikes sharply.

When demand peaks, standard grids face two main challenges:
1️⃣ Higher Costs: Utilities often charge higher "peak-hour" rates when everyone is running their AC at the same time.
2️⃣ Strained Infrastructure: High demand can cause localized, temporary outages as the system works to balance the load.

The good news?

You don’t need a multi-million dollar stadium budget to get that exact same kind of energy independence.

With modern residential standby generators and smart battery systems, you can essentially create a mini-microgrid for your own home.

If the local grid gets overloaded, your house can automatically switch to its own reliable power source, keeping your family comfortable and your appliances running smoothly.

Our latest blog breaks helps you prepare your home for the summer season.

For years, students at Ratu Naivalu Memorial School in Fiji only had electricity for a few hours a day.

That meant limited lighting, limited technology, and limited opportunities once the generators shut off.

Through a partnership with Its Time Foundation, we were able to help bring battery storage technology to the school — creating reliable 24-hour power for students and teachers.

Now, classrooms have access to laptops, Smart TVs, internet connectivity, and brighter learning spaces. Teachers can finally teach to their fullest potential, while money once spent on diesel fuel can now go back into educational resources for students.

Even more inspiring? The installation was completed by the Pacific’s first all-female solar installation team — showing young girls in the community what’s possible in STEM and skilled trades.

This is what happens when clean energy powers more than buildings. It powers futures.
