GRAPHIC ILLUSTRATOR
US Citizenship. FTE w/benefits.
Minimum 5 yrs experience. Some experience within DoD environment is nice to have. Worksite location is Arlington,VA (virtual during pandemic).
Strong presentation, communication and creative skills a must.
Security background check required.
Minimum Education/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Art, Graphics Design Graphic Design; Applied Graphic Studies; Applied Graphic Technology; Visual Communication; Graphic Communication; Graphic Art; Multimedia Graphics; Packaging Design and four (4) years’ experience in the listed fields. Eight years’ experience in the listed fields can be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree.
Knowledge of a variety of art methods, techniques, materials, and procedures used in the design, production, and reproduction of visual products.
Knowledge of visual design principles such as unity, line, shape, form, arrangement, balance, proportion, contrast, weight, color, and interaction.
Ability to utilize a computer graphics program (such as those listed above) to create original illustrations; and to use other art media such as pen-and-ink, pencils, tempera, acrylics, oils, washes, water colors, pastels, and air brushes.
Ability to visualize images and produce an illustration or graphic representation based on the object described.
Ability to communicate effectively and work well with others to plan, coordinate, and advise on work efforts.
Knowledge of clinical objects, illustration, and documentation to include understanding and background of medical themes, concepts, symbols and terminology.
*Big plus if they are a prior Military Service Member or have worked with the Air Force or another Military branch previously
Job Description:
The Graphic Illustrator shall perform the following tasks:
- Design, Lay Out and Prepares a Variety of Artwork. provide graphics support for medical and non-medical projects from beginning of assignment and follow through to completion on all propose and plan a work method to the Contracting Officer Representative (COR) and the Government Program Manager, select suitable color scheme, typestyle and type sizes, and recommend ideal subject matter depiction considering objective, deadline and reproduction method.
- create preliminary sketches, mockups or models for production to ensure accuracy and achieved objective for various informational and operational projects. Employ visual elements and principles of composition including style, balance, contrast, tone, color, dominance and sub-ordinance. ensure accurate subject matter portrayal for informational and operational projects.
- Assist the Government with researching reference sources and consult with subject matter experts to assure that illustrations are accurate presentations of the objects used to communicate themes.
- Compose and complete a variety of general and technical artwork in full color, monochromatic, or black and white. The work requires imaginative and creative ideas, sometimes without the benefit of precedent.
- Organize, update and manage electronic library of videos, sound clips, photos, images and clip-art for use in generating medical and non-medical artwork.
- Advise and Provide Project Management Support to Air Force
- Meet and coordinate with project officers, subject matter experts and senior AF personnel to plan illustration projects. Advise on specific services, capabilities, processes and suitable equipment to use in terms of compatibility, improvability, availability of photographic images and reproduction processes available. Advise project officers on the capabilities of these processes and various art media. Identify advantages and disadvantages for various types of materials to be used.
- Complete rough ideas, conceive theme and prepare preliminary layout for presentation to customer. Recommend format, color medium and method of reproduction considering the customer’s specifications. discuss all requirements with the customers and recommend the development of the project based on personal experience and training.
- Create Original Artwork Utilizing Computer Graphics Software.
- Develop visual graphics using state-of-the-art software programs such as Corel Draw and all Adobe Creative Suite CS5 software and create, analyze, interpret, coordinate, accomplish, and produce computer-generated and/or conventional graph
