Ten years ago, I had the privilege of being part of the very first Event Design Collective cohort in San Diego. The experience changed the way I think about meetings, events, stakeholders, and outcomes—and it continues to influence my work today.
Next week, I'm honored to return to Purdue University for Cohort 61 as the guest of Ruud Janssen, co-creator of Event Design. Reconnecting with Ruud after all these years has been a wonderful reminder of how much this methodology shaped my professional journey.
As I've reflected on those early lessons, I've realized that while I may not have always been actively using the Event Design Canvas itself, I have continued applying the principles behind it for the past decade. From trade show strategy and association management to membership engagement, sponsorship development, and event planning, the practice of identifying stakeholders, defining desired outcomes, and intentionally designing experiences has become part of how I approach my work.
I'm looking forward to immersing myself in the process again, reconnecting with the EDC community, and refreshing ideas and skills that have influenced so many aspects of my career. Most importantly, I'm excited to bring those insights back to my clients and continue refining and elevating the strategies, experiences, and services I deliver on their behalf.
One of the things I've always appreciated about Event Design is that it challenges us to think beyond logistics and focus on intentional experiences, meaningful outcomes, and the people we serve.
Learning never stops, and I'm excited to revisit my roots in event design while exploring how the methodology continues to evolve.
