Leadership Putnam participants recently explored the places, people, and experiences that make our community a destination worth discovering during Tourism Day! 🌿🎣

With visits to Eagle's Nest Farms and Crescent Fish Camp, participants experienced two unique destinations that showcase the charm and character of Putnam County. These stops offered an opportunity to see our community through a visitor’s eyes and consider how local attractions help shape the Putnam County experience.

Throughout the day, participants explored local tourism assets and deepened their understanding of tourism’s economic and cultural impact through a fun, interactive trivia challenge. The experience connected learning with discovery, highlighting tourism’s role in supporting local businesses, creating jobs, and sharing the stories that make our community special.

Tourism Day also encouraged participants to reflect on the connection between community leadership and a thriving visitor economy. Understanding and celebrating what makes Putnam County unique is an important part of helping our future leaders become informed advocates for our businesses, destinations, and communities.

The future is taking flight in Putnam County! ✈️

The Putnam County Chamber was excited to celebrate today's groundbreaking of the new Corporate Jet Center at Palatka-Kay Larkin Airport.

Chamber VP of Economic Development Sara Maxfield, who also serves on the Airport Advisory Board, joined local leaders and project partners in recognizing this important investment in one of our community's key economic assets.

Our airport serves as a gateway for business, investment, and opportunity. Enhancements like the Corporate Jet Center help strengthen our ability to attract new businesses, support existing employers, and showcase Putnam County as a great place to invest and grow.

We look forward to seeing this project take shape and the positive impact it will have on our community for years to come.

Yesterday MAXREV Real Estate celebrated their grand opening with a ribbon cutting celebration ✂️at their downtown Palatka office located at 717 St. Johns Avenue. The event was also a stop for the Downtown Palatka W**e Stroll to be able to enjoy some food and w**e, fellowship, and to tour their new space.

The Chamber was excited to welcome another great addition to our downtown district and to support continued growth for our community.🤎

Yesterday our Leadership Putnam Class of 2026 stepped into the classroom to explore how our schools are preparing the next generation of Putnam County’s workforce, and what it will take to keep our community’s talent pipeline strong.

We started the morning at the Chamber with Laura France, Putnam County School District Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. She shared insights on the issues our schools were facing today and the opportunities ahead, setting the tone for a day focused on the connection between education and economic growth.

From there, we headed to Palatka Jr.-Sr. High School to tour the career and technical education program classrooms and were joined by members of the Putnam County School District CTE Advisory Board, giving the LP cohort a closer look at how career and technical education programs are shaped by the needs of local employers. Seeing students engaged in hands-on learning was a powerful reminder of the talent right here in our own backyard.

Our day continued at St. Johns River State College were President Pickens and his leadership team shared insights on current issues and future opportunities including wrap around support for educational programs.

Leadership Putnam toured parts of the St. Johns River State College Palatka campus, including the Beck Hall student dormitory and the newly renovated FloArts building, to see how the college supports students as they move from the classroom into careers.

A big thank you to SJRSC for sponsoring a delicious LP lunch from SJRState Lunchbox. We enjoyed it during our lunch and learn in Valhalla Hall, and we appreciate the gracious hospitality!

To everyone who took the time to share their work, their insights, and their passion for our students: thank you. When education and industry work hand in hand, our whole community benefits.

🏭 Made in Putnam County | Happy National Manufacturing Day!

From the paper towels in your kitchen to the bridges you drive over, a lot of what keeps America running is made right here in Putnam County. Here's a look at some of our makers and what they produce:

🧻 Georgia-Pacific (Palatka): Bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Angel Soft, Quilted Northern, Brawny, and Sparkle brands. The mill also makes kraft paper for mailers and grocery bags, plus linerboard for corrugated boxes.

🏗️ CertainTeed / Saint-Gobain: Gypsum wallboard. After a recent expansion, the Palatka plant is the largest gypsum facility in the world.

🌉 Veritas Steel: Complex bridge structures and plate girder projects, fabricated at its 120-acre Palatka facility on the St. Johns River. Pieces of the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in Washington, D.C. were fabricated in Palatka.

🚢 St. Johns Ship Building: Crew transfer vessels, ferries, tugboats, landing craft, and barges.

🍽️ Comarco Products: Frozen food service products including fried eggplant, jalapeño peppers, and ravioli. It is the largest producer of battered/breaded eggplant in the country.

🪜 Holbrook Manufacturing: Aluminum ramps and stairs, gangways and docks, custom rails, bridges, modular walkways, gates and picnic tables.

🚤 Plastic Masters: Boat windshields, hatches, live bait wells, deck lids, custom cabinets and enclosures.

Behind every product is a Putnam County team member who showed up, learned a skill, and built something real. Thank you to all of our manufacturers and the people who work for them!
