Wearing purple for Brystal today. She will be forever 14.

No family should have to go through what her family is going through. No kid should feel how she felt.

Parents talk to your kids about bullying. Tell them to speak out. Tell them to stand up if they hear about it. Monitor their behavior. Get them help.

I didn’t know Brystal or the family but that don’t mean to keep silent. That means to show up still. Make awareness.

Let’s talk about fun activities and mental health.

Everyone has activities they enjoy. No matter the day or what is going on. They look forward to being there.

If you see someone who love an activity and starts to withdraw from it keep an eye on them. This could be a sign of depression. This could be a sign of them being bullied. This is a great opportunity to start talking about what is going on. See if they start opening up. If they are involved in sports talk to the coaches.

These are small signs that does not need to be ignored. It could be nothing but needs to be kept an eye on. Don’t ignore sudden behavior changes.

If we are going to make a change with Mental health we have to come together. Teachers and guidance counselors need to talk to each other. Most students prefer going to a teacher instead of their guidance counselor. Why because they trust their teacher. They spend time with their teacher. They talk to them daily. The guidance counselor is important but we have to start becoming a team again.

Parents it will surprise you who your kid will turn to at school. It’s not always the guidance counselor. It’s the teacher who has built that relationship with the student. The teacher who cares. The teacher who knows their activities after school. The teacher who pushes them to achieve their full potential. That’s who they will turn to. I had many teachers on my side.

It takes one person to stand up. It could be your kid that stands up.

Parents we need to do better. We need to teach our students to stand up for their classmates. Do they have to be their best friend? No Do they have to hang out? no.

Can we still help that student in the hallway? Yes can they have a voice for someone who is scared? Yes

Teens have a struggle right now. They don’t stand up because they are scared. They are scared of getting retaliated on for it.

Have that hard talk with your child. Explain how to be a good friend. Explain how you will have their back if they stand up.

We have to stop the bullying. Parents the schools are brushing it off it’s time for us to make the change.

My content this week was not about Mental health or bullying. Due to a recent event in my hometown has changed my content this week. My goal this week is to bring more light to Mental Health and bullying.

I have experienced bullying as a kid and as a mom seeing my kids go through it. This is not ok and needs more attention.

This is not only happening in my town but all over. Parents take time and speak to your kids about bullying. Teach them how to stand up for ones being bullied.
Many times if a child sees another child being bullied they stay silent. They stay silent out of fear for theirselves. Parents let’s all come together and make a difference with bullying.

This is alarming:
Kids are being bullied and not speaking out. They are keeping to theirselves.

They are scared to speak up.
They are worried to speak up.
They blame their selves.
They are embarrassed.
Their self esteem is down.

Parents speak to your kids about bullies. Speak about what they need to do if they are being bullied. Talk to them about coming to you or an adult at school. Teach them to speak out.

Parent teach your kids to stand up. If they hear about a child be being bullied they need to speak up. They don’t need to try to come up with a plan to fix it. Let an adult handle it.
