It would be hard to top this beauty of a regular archery season 8, but I bet Dalton will try this Fall. Congratulations Dalton on an impressive Maine archery buck!

Probably my favorite wall pedestal pose, the Mears Whitetail Forms semi-sneak, and this nice 8pt was a perfect fit. It is slightly different than the full sneak mears wall pedestal. Unfortunately there are only two size options and only this turn, but if the size and turn works for your deer, this makes a really sharp looking mount! Congratulations Ethan on a great Maine buck!

Pictures never do really big bodied deer justice. This buck was mounted on a 8x26 Mears Whitetail Forms and just dwarfed every other deer on the wall. He was an old Western Maine mountain buck that aged 11.5 years old. After seeing how wide his skull plate was, I have no doubt the tooth aging was indeed correct. You could lay all four fingers between the antler bases. This measurement won’t mean anything except to a taxidermist, but his carunkel to carunkel measurement was 4 5/8”… about as blocked headed as any New England deer will get, and that comes with age. Congrats Josh on a great old buck!

Over the weekend I was able to attend the annual Maine Association of Taxidermy show in Freeport. I decided to put together a bobcat this year and custom mold/cast an open snarling mouth for it. It is rewarding putting together a show piece, but also a large time commitment. Ken Walker of Alberta was the mammal judge this year and his knowledge base was incredible. Listening to his carcass casting seminar and all of his mammal critiques I learned a ton, including my bobcat critique. He awarded me a blue ribbon with a score of 96 and gave me a lot of inspiration for future mounts. Thank you to Sam, Jared, Candice, and all of the other MAT members that volunteer their time to make the show a success.

Andy Craig this is the 33lb tom that I purchased off you a couple of winters ago. Thank you for a nice specimen!

Big bases, big swelled neck, over 200lbs, and 7.5 years old… yep I would have been pumped to drag this one out of the woods! Congratulations Elliot on a great buck.

Stephen missed arrowing this coastal Island buck in full velvet by about 12 hours. These island deer are neat to put together. They’re quite a bit different than mainland deer. I call them pygmy deer because their bodies are usually so much smaller. This buck was 5.5 years old, but his nose length was only 6 3/4”. Generally our mainland deer would be 7 1/2”- 7 3/4” at that age. Luckily those island pygmy deer can grow some nice antlers though and when you get them early season like this, they sure do make a pretty mount! Congratulations Stephen on a great buck.

He is on my favorite form for early season deer, the Mears Whitetail Forms Semi Upright Offset- SUOR 18

Logan filled his early season expanded archery tag, but also didn’t let his rifle tag go to waste! It’s not often I get a customer request ears forward in a full sneak pose, sometimes it’s nice to do something different for a change. Congratulations Logan on a great season!

If you’re an archery hunter in Maine, you’re pretty lucky you can put an expanded tag on a buck like this and then still have a rifle tag in November. Congratulations Logan on a great early season Archery buck!

Early season expanded zone bucks are a real pleasure to mount. I’m always partial to mounting big Western or Northern Maine deer, but these early season bucks sure do look pretty. Congratulations Justin on a stud expanded archery buck!

Chris needed a cape for this buck that he had left with a taxidermist in Vermont a few years ago. Unfortunately that taxidermist had health issues with cancer and was not able to complete the mount. Chris was able to get the rack back and I was able to get him a cape. Thank you Chris and congratulations on a great Vermont buck!
