WHY SHOULD YOUR BUSINESS BE MARKETING TO WOMEN GOLFERS? As a Public Relations and Business Development Consultant, I’m often asked: “Why focus on the female golfer?” The numbers tell the story.
According to the National Golf Foundation, the U.S. reached a record 8.1 million female on-course golfers in 2025. Female participation grew an impressive 45% from 2020–2025, adding approximately 2.5 million women and girls to the game.
And this isn't simply an older demographic. Almost half of women playing traditional golf are under age 35. That represents tremendous long-term opportunity for businesses in golf apparel, equipment, instruction, golf travel, luxury resorts, country clubs, wellness, lifestyle products, events and experiences.
The opportunity extends beyond the fairway. Women also represented 59% of U.S. discretionary general-merchandise retail spending in Circana's 2025 analysis.
For anyone working in the golf industry, hospitality, travel, or lifestyle sectors, these trends are worth understanding. Women aren't simply participating in golf—they are helping shape its future.
The question isn't whether women golfers are an attractive target market. It's whether your business has a strategy to reach them.
