Biggest ever Global Goals Week in support of the SDGs

Plans unveiled for biggest ever Global Goals Week to accelerate progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, marking their third anniversary.

More than 30 events are already confirmed to take place alongside the UN General Assembly in September.

Plans for Global Goals Week 2018 were announced today for the third annual week of action where the United Nations and partners from around the world come together to drive action, raise awareness and hold leaders to account in order to accelerate progress to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals.

Global Goals Week was launched in 2016 by founding partners Project Everyone, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Foundation to offer an SDG-focused branding umbrella for key convenings both within and alongside the UN General Assembly (UNGA). It has grown each year and continues to recruit more partners in the build up to 2020, a key milestone for the Goals agenda.

Timed to coincide with the UN General Assembly, Global Goals Week will be held 22 to 29 September, with events taking place in New York and around the world. All activations will be connected through social media using the hashtag . In 2017 the conversation around the SDGs during the UN General Assembly reached 150 million people, with almost 4 billion combined social media and media impressions and more than 2 million actions taken. The week will again run parallel to Climate Week NYC, intensifying the drumbeat of progress towards the Goals.

The announcement comes as leaders concluded the sixth High Level Political Forum (HLPF) in New York last week which saw 46 countries, more than ever before, report on their progress to the Global Goals. The HLPF highlighted that while positive progress is being made, it is not at sufficient speed to achieve the Goals by 2030. Therefore it is more critical than ever that both the public and world leaders reaffirm their commitment to the Goals agenda.

Amina J. Mohammed, UN Deputy Secretary-General, said, “Global Goals Week calls for collective action, creativity, innovation, and commitment to deliver on the SDGs for everyone, everywhere. The last two weeks at the United Nations have showcased progress made by all countries. However, we must do much more in all constituencies, at all levels everywhere, to deliver for people and planet.”

Richard Curtis, Writer, Campaigner, and Project Everyone Founder, added, “In 2020 we will be a third of the way through the SDGs. With only two years to go to that crucial milestone – now is the time to inspire people to take action and to press world leaders to achieve what the Goals set out: a rigorous plan to make us the first generation to end extreme poverty, the last generation to be threatened by climate change – and the generation most determined to end injustice and inequality.”

Events

With over 30 events already confirmed, the week is on track to be the biggest Global Goals week yet. In addition to significant convenings by the UN including several UN agencies, the week will feature new events like the first ever WISE education summit and returning Goals-focused gatherings from organizers like the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Global Citizen. Organizations like World Economic Forum, Bloomberg and the UN Global Compact will include strong participation from the private sector and will explore the opportunities of public private partnerships in meeting the Global Goals. The week will also break out of New York as The UN SDG Action Campaign, Action for Sustainable Development, and the Global Call to Action Against Poverty drive a Global Day of Action on September 25, which will see thousands of people around the world show their commitment to the Goals.

Kathy Calvin, President & CEO of the UN Foundation, said, “The Sustainable Development Goals present both a bold vision for a better future and a challenge for collective action to achieve the goals. Global Goals Week is a response to that challenge – creating opportunities for partners from many different areas to work together to drive change.”

The power of collaboration is at the heart of Global Goals Week, with organizations and individuals from across government, the private sector, civil society, media and the UN coming together to cultivate ideas, identify solutions, and generate meaningful partnerships for the Global Goals.

Achim Steiner, UNDP Administrator, said, “Global Goals week is an invitation to people across the world to celebrate that which unites us. Whether as individuals, families, communities or countries – everyone is welcome to become part of this global movement dedicated to our common future. Here we are again .. 2:30 in the a.m. .. . Fcbk'ing!*!! .. . like there's something better to do!!!
Just picked up a book I've had for years and started reading this p.m. .. "Combatting the Lies of Satan" .. started reading in the 'God to man relationship' section .. .

Some interesting points: 'Just as an inventor designs a product for a special purpose so to does God design each of us with a special purpose in mind. .... ... Those who don't known their God-given purposes, will function without 100% success b/c they are clueless abt their creator's purpse for them. ... ... ... you may become a celebrity, a billionaire, even Nobel Peace Prize winner -- but unless you are attaining what God has purposed for you, God considers you a failure!! ... ... .. When you deny God's existence, you become completely oblivious to His purpose and will spend your life trying to fulfill something for which you were not designed .. .. . .

If anything in this short narrative sounds faintly familiar, maybe you need to re-prioritize the importance of where God is at in your LIFE .. . Matthew 22: ... .. 37) Jesus said to him, 'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' 38) This is the first and great commandment.

TOMA has been relatively quiet the past little while! We've been recently developing another website on Weebly.com featuring our newest Division: FAITH, HOPE, & CHARITY.

TOMA promotes sustainable development of local, regional, & global communities. We also provide our services to religious organizations, charities, missions projects, and emergency response and disaster relief teams.

Our FAITH HOPE & CHARITY DIVISION is responsible for funding relief assistance, i.e., food, essential supplies, and emergency medical services in areas affected by natural disasters and civil unrest.

On the Weebly.com site you will see our support of an orphanage in Lagos, Nigeria. The financial assistance we provide is made possible due to the benevolence of our benefactors and other free-will offerings.

Our planned trip to Recife, Brazil later this year is still in the planning stage. We will be acting in a supportive capacity with Great Harvest Ministries (GHM). This organization has been founded by Brett, Noona, and granddaughter Selah Hennes. Their VISION is to build a complex to train-up missionaries. Stay tuned for future volunteer opportunities when the actual construction work begins.

Other upcoming TOMA projects include basketball tournaments which will introduce the concept of 'contributing to the basketball team / community' as comparable to 'contributing to the community which you live in'. Volunteers will also be used in this effort so stay tuned.

Some ppl look to God when they are in a tight jam and don't see any way out .. Others when they lose a loved one and are looking for consolation and don't know where to find it . Yet others when they get married in a church they have never set foot in before . want to have their baby christened .. or need a man of the cloth to say a few words at some sort of gathering.

In the year 2015, leaders from 193 countries of the world came together to face future. This is the picture they saw: famines, drought, wars, plagues, and poverty.

They knew things didn’t have to be this way. They knew we had enoughfood to feed the world, but that it wasn’t getting shared. They knew there were medicines for HIV and other diseases ... ..; they knew that the death toll from earthquakes and floods ... .. .. . . .

They also knew that billions of people worldwide shared their hope for a better future.

So leaders from these countries created a plan called the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This set of 17 goals imagines a future that would be rid of poverty and hunger, and safe from the worst effects of climate change. It’s an ambitious plan, however, there’s ample evidence that we can succeed.

In the past 15 years, the international community cut extreme poverty in half.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is one of the leading organizations working to fulfil the SDGs by the year 2030. Present in nearly 170 countries and territories, they help nations make the Goals a reality.

UNDP champions the Goals so that people everywhere know how to do their part. This is a global movement requiring everyone to be informed about Sustainable Development Goals.

TOMA & Associates is becoming more proactive with UN's 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) & their 'No Man Left Behind' Agenda.

TOMA is an organization which promotes the concept of sustainsable living practices / policies in local, regional, and global communities. TOMA fosters sustainable growth & development by improving the social, economic, environmental, and cultural dynamics of a specific community.

Q) Why . . you mite ask yourself .. . is the Bible the most widely read book in the world??

A) It is full of wisdom to those searching for knowledge and seeking to gain understanding! #!

Take, for instance, the following i.e.:

NUMBER OUR DAYS

Psalm 90:12 NKJV
"So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom."

In Hebrew: "Teach us to 'manah' our days. . . "

The same word, 'manah' is used in Jonah, where it is written that God 'manahs' a fish, a worm, and a wind.

God 'prepared' and 'appointed' the fish, the worm, and the wind.

Thus 'manah' means not only 'to number' or 'to count', but also 'to prepare' and 'to appoint'.

So the Psalmist - Moses, in this case - tells us we need to 'prepare our days' and 'to appoint our days' - not merely 'to count' our days, but to MAKE OUR DAYS COUNT.

The Amplified Version brings out this inference of 'manah' better than most other versions:

Psalm 90:12 Amplified
"So teach us to number our days,
That we may cultivate and bring to You a heart of wisdom."

So,

O God,

I pray that You teach us to not watch and wait passively to see what each day brings; but instead that we prepare and appoint each day for You;

that our days would not determine our lives,
but that our lives will determine our days;

teach us to prepare our hearts to willingly set apart however many days remain in our lives for your purposes, committing each day into Your hands that we fulfill Your plan, and be a blessing to those You have placed in our lives;

that TODAY we consecrate ourselves to do Your will, walk in Your Spirit, and spread the Light, Life and Love of Your Kingdom everywhere we go;

realizing, in light of Eternity, the brevity of our lives here on Earth;

always aware that You have secured for us a Living Hope -. an incorruptible, imperishable, undefiled reservation in Heaven, waiting for us after our days are done.

Use us for Your Glory, O God, while it is called Today.

Amen.

Att'n: Fcbk Community .. I am using Matt Smith as the Poster Boy for a Basketball Tournament TOMA is going to be putting on in Spring 2019 ..

Matt is on the right .. .. the pic on the left is my brother who passed away a few yrs back . He was the middle son of 3 fine young men my mom & dad sired! #! .. . The B-ball Tournaments will be named in his honor .. The Annual Richard M. Hennes B-ball Tournmnt ..

Rich was an all-around athlete . The list is quite long .. he played freshman football (starting half-back) . frshmn b-ball (guard . 18 ppg avg . leading scorer) . & freshman baseball ... the rest of the list . abbreviated . JV Football . JV Basketball . Varsity Soccer & Varsity B-ball! #! .. I though it only fitting to name the tournament in his honor ..

Pls stay up on our posts . Registration . Volunteer opportunities (score-keepers, check-in personnel, referees, refreshments, etc.) are all going to be needing bodies. Other info pertaining to dates . announcements . etc . Will be posted up as well! #!

God .. the chief scout for the Heavenly Angel team will also be at a few of the games searching for future prospects! #!
