** SCAM ALERT **
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has become aware of scammers calling people and impersonating deputies while demanding payment of fines for failing to respond to jury duty summons, making notifications of outstanding warrants, or open cases with your information. Scammers may use the names of actual Sheriff Department personnel or may impersonate other law enforcement agencies.
Do not provide any of your personal information such as social security number, state identification (driver’s license), bank accounts, credit card information, date of birth, residential address, or any other information over the phone.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department or any other law enforcement agency will never ask for payment over the phone or by email. We will never ask you to purchase gift cards or transfer money.
If you are contacted by someone identifying themselves as a peace officer, ask them for their employee number and their station of employment. Verify the Sheriff Station telephone number.
Make sure to warn your elderly neighbors and family members of these scams, they are the most targeted communities for scammers.
Victims of scammers, or anyone with information pertaining to a scam, are encouraged to call Palmdale Sheriff’s Station at 661-272-2400 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
