Behind the Scenes at Delta Scientific 🏭

A look inside our production floor as a series of DSC501 Wedge Barricades moves through assembly.

From heavy steel fabrication to final system integration, each barricade takes shape here before heading into the field. It’s a process built around precision, consistency, and ensuring every system is ready for the demands of a high-security perimeter.

Soon, these DSC501s will leave the shop floor and become part of a complete vehicle access control solution.

Some new hires already know their way around. 👋

We’re excited to welcome Matthew Owens back to Delta Scientific as a Senior Mechanical Engineer!

Matthew previously spent several years at Delta, contributing to the development of barrier systems including the DSC7090, DSC550 and DSC8000, along with work on the DSC633, DSC635, MP100, TB150 and DSC50.

After several years away, Matthew returns with even more engineering experience under his belt, including leading the mechanical development of a new actuator used in commercial aircraft.

Now he’ll be putting that experience to work on product and process improvements across our existing lineup, while also contributing to new Delta R&D projects and future product development.

Judging by the reaction from our engineering department, there were quite a few people happy to see a familiar face walk back through the doors.

Outside of engineering, Matthew spends much of his free time mountain biking, camping and kayaking. And we'll let his chosen quote speak for itself:

Behind the Scenes at Delta Scientific 🏭

A look inside our production floor as a series of DSC8000 Bi-Fold Speed Gates moves through assembly.

Each system is being built, fitted, and tested before leaving our facility. These units will ship pre-hung, helping streamline field installation and reduce assembly work once they arrive on site.

For large-scale security projects, that preparation is a massive time-saver. The more we can complete and verify here, the smoother the installation process can be in the field.

Employee Spotlight: Matt Grace
Senior Project Engineer

For more than eight years at Delta Scientific, Matt Grace has brought creativity, technical expertise, and a drive to keep making things better. As Senior Project Engineer, his strengths span designing, drawing, creating, and plenty of SolidWorks.

Matt’s career has taken him from acoustical surveys and designing a hang glider to earning his name on a patent. A graduate of Wentworth Institute of Technology with a degree in Mechanical Design & Engineering, he also holds a SolidWorks certification and plans to add more.

At Delta, one of Matt’s favorite parts of the job is helping others grow. His goal is simple: leave things better than they were the year before and keep building on the progress made along the way.

Outside of work, Matt stays busy hiking, running, climbing, camping, playing pool, enjoying music, and spending time with his wife, friends, and family. For him, laughter and good times make the best memories.

Favorite motto:

What do UL 752 Levels 9 and 10 actually mean?

Each level represents a specific ballistic threat:

• Level 9: .30-06 M2 armor-piercing am******on
• Level 10: .50-caliber M2 Ball am******on

The new DSC50BR passed independent ballistic testing to both levels at Element U.S. Space & Defense.

During testing, both rounds traveled at more than 2,900 feet per second. Neither completely penetrated the barrier.

This testing adds ballistic resistance to a portable barrier that also retains an ASTM SC30 vehicle-impact rating.

The new DSC50BR combines the portable vehicle mitigation of the DSC50 with ballistic protection tested according to UL 752 Level 9 and Level 10 standards.

Introducing the new Delta Scientific DSC50BR Portable “S” Barrier.

Designed for event security, law enforcement and rapidly changing security environments, the DSC50BR combines ASTM SC30-rated vehicle protection with ballistic resistance tested to UL 752 Levels 9 and 10.

During independent testing at Element U.S. Space & Defense, the DSC50BR resisted both .30-06 M2 armor-piercing and .50-caliber M2 Ball am******on with no complete pe*******on.

Each DSC50BR weighs 172 pounds and can be deployed or repositioned by one person using its dedicated transporter—helping security teams respond quickly to vehicle and ballistic threats while preserving pedestrian and emergency access.
