City of Palmdale Hosts Co****le Classic Doubles Tournament Sept. 19

Local competitors will compete in Men’s, Women’s and Coed divisions during the Palmdale Co****le Classic, with prizes awarded to the top teams in each division.

The Palmdale Co****le Classic is a doubles tournament featuring Men’s, Women’s and Coed divisions. Each team is guaranteed a minimum of two games and will compete for prizes in each division:

* First Place: $50 gift card
* Second Place: $30 gift card
* Third Place: $20 gift card

Beer, food and refreshments will be available onsite, along with fun activities for children.

Ja Rule Brings 2000s Hip-Hop and R&B Hits to Palmdale Amphitheater Aug. 22

The Palmdale Amphitheater concert series continues Saturday, Aug. 22, with rapper, singer and songwriter Ja Rule performing an evening of his signature hip-hop and R&B hits.

Ja Rule will perform hits from throughout his career, including music that helped define the hip-hop and R&B sound of the 2000s.

Food trucks will be on site offering entrées, snacks and desserts. Local craft beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages will also be available for purchase. Outside food and beverages are not permitted, except for one sealed bottle of water per person.

Tickets range from $18 to $90 and are available through the official Palmdale Amphitheater website. A valid ticket is required for every attendee, regardless of age. Guests should purchase tickets through the official Palmdale Amphitheater website to avoid unauthorized third-party sellers.

City of Palmdale to Host Disaster Preparedness Expo

The City of Palmdale will host a free Disaster Preparedness Expo to help residents and businesses learn how to prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies and disasters.

Attendees can meet with local agencies and emergency management partners, explore preparedness resources, participate in hands-on demonstrations and receive disaster preparedness giveaways. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will be among the participating partners.

The Expo is a walk-through event, and attendees may arrive at any time between 6 and 8 p.m. Demonstrations will repeat throughout the evening, and participating organizations will be available at information tables for the duration of the event.

Palmdale Invites Community to Unite Through Service in Honor of September 11

The City of Palmdale invites residents to remember, honor and serve during its 9/11 National Day of Service on Saturday, Sept. 12. Held under the theme “United We Serve,” the event will bring families, neighbors and community members together for meaningful acts of kindness to honor the lives lost on September 11 and recognize those who serve and strengthen the City.

“This is a day to remember those we lost on 9/11and honor the courage and selflessness shown by first responders, the military and everyday Americans,” said Mayor Eric Ohlsen. “By serving alongside our neighbors, we carry that spirit of unity forward and make a meaningful difference in Palmdale.”

Participants can contribute to several volunteer projects, including:

* Assembling care packages for local seniors
* Completing community beautification projects
* Creating thank-you cards for local first responders and essential workers

“Service is a powerful way to honor the legacy of September 11 and show gratitude to those who safeguard our community every day,” said Mayor Pro Tem Austin Bishop. “Whether it’s assembling a care package, beautifying the neighborhood or writing a simple thank-you card, every act of kindness brings Palmdale together.”

The thank-you cards will be shared with firefighters, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department personnel, California Highway Patrol officers, Code Enforcement officers, hospital staff, Animal Control officers and Public Works crews.

The event is designed for volunteers of all ages and offers families an opportunity to serve together while recognizing the people who work each day to support and protect the community.

WAR’s 50th Anniversary Greatest Hits Tour Stops in Palmdale Aug. 7

The City of Palmdale will present WAR on Friday, Aug. 7, at the Palmdale Amphitheater as part of its summer concert series.

WAR will perform its blend of funk, soul, rock and Latin jazz during a stop on the band’s 50th Anniversary Greatest Hits Tour. The concert will feature selections from WAR’s catalog spanning more than five decades.
