Happy Alaska Day! 💙🌟 Let's celebrate one of the best days of the year! On October 18, 1867, the formal flag-raising took place in Sitka, marking the official transfer of the Territory of Alaska from Russia to the United States.

We're forever grateful to call this unique and beautiful land home, and each day we strive to keep our beloved Alaska moving smoothly. 💪

🚦 Ever wonder what those cameras at traffic signals do?
 
They:
✅ Detect vehicles to help the lights change safely and efficiently
✅ Help observe live traffic conditions in real time
 
They do NOT:
❌ Record video
❌ Read license plates
 
These cameras replaced older in-ground sensors that were costly to maintain and less reliable in Alaska’s winter conditions. While not perfect, they do help keep traffic moving year-round.

Glad nobody was hurt. 😳

The pedestrian bridge spanning the Seward Highway that leads to Rabbit Creek Elementary partially collapsed overnight, closing the highway for several hours.
