The biggest breakthrough in MARCIA isn't tape.
It is this:
The surveillance operator shouldn't have to care where the video is stored.
Think about how traditional archival storage works.
Someone needs footage from months or years ago.
Now the organization has to determine where it lives.
Find the archive.
Identify the media.
Initiate a restore.
Wait for the data to be staged.
Then get the recording back into a form the surveillance system can use.
We thought that was the wrong workflow.
With MARCIA, the operator continues doing what they already know how to do:
Use the VMS timeline.
If the requested recording has migrated to long-term LTO storage, MARCIA handles
the retrieval process underneath the VMS workflow and restores the required video back into the storage structure expected by the VMS.
The VMS then performs normal playback.
No separate MARCIA archive viewer.
No separate operator restore application.
No requirement for the security operator to understand tape libraries.
That's the point.
Storage infrastructure should serve the surveillance workflow — not force the surveillance team to serve the storage infrastructure.
And MARCIA is not designed around a single VMS.
The same architectural principle is being applied across supported platforms including Milestone XProtect, Hanwha WAVE, Digital Watchdog Spectrum IPVMS, Network Optix Nx Witness, PIKO VMS and Cozaint BOBBYvms.
The VMS manages video operations.
MARCIA preserves the long-term value of the video.
That's Intelligent Video Lifecycle Management.
