Purchase price shouldn’t be the only thing you consider when running numbers to see if you can afford to buy a house. Two homes listed at the same price can have different monthly mortgage amounts depending on taxes, interest rate, homeowners insurance, HOA dues, and after utilities as well.

At the end of the day - your monthly payment amount will impact your budget and lifestyle, not just the number on the purchase contract.
